Unfortunately though, that's all it is, an idea.
When the sign went up I was expecting work to start on site within weeks, or at least months.
But the fact is it's now all these years later and NOTHING has happened!
Also if it was approaved a year ago, then surely at the very least construction should now be well underway, if not virtually completed.
The problem with this development was that no tier of government has wanted to entirely fund the project. The federal government only jumped on-board last year, ensuring the survival of the project. The pool will be built.

Are you a marion resident Jimmy, as I have seen the news Will mentions only I cannot remember where I saw it. It was either in the Marion area messenger or the council newsletter stuff that come with your rates demand.
I also seem to remember (Mayor of Marion) Felicity-ann Lewis apologising for the delay but assuring everyone it still was on track, just a number of hoops thru which they must jump - basically as Will says.

Yes I am a Marion resident.
Yes I remember seeing how our rates are going to increase for this new swimming center in the newsletter etc, also because they might be still using the old swimming center.

If you are a Marion resident then we should receive the same Messenger newspaper. If you don't currently do so, you should start reading it.

The consortium to build this centre has finally been chosen. A private consortium known as Aqua43, beat 2 other rival bids to build the new FINA standard state swimming centre. The consortium is composed by local construction firm, Candetti Construction and Sydney based Macquarie Bank. The state swimming centre is expected to be ready by December 2009.

Same, 2 big pools within walking distance. Saves me having to walk to the beach at glenelg and get eaten by sharks hehe. I wonder if they will keep the original Marion swimming centre?

I don't know, I think they are still determining it. It would mean a rate increase for us living in the Marion Council area, but since my parents pay...

Earthmover & Civil Contractor magazine says that Candetti Constructions and Macquarie Bank have been appointed as builder and financier. Construction is expected to start early next year with the centre scheduled to open late 2008 or early 2009.
