Possible water source? http://www.sawater.com.au/sawater/whats ... klands.htmHo Really wrote:Probably got a good irrigation/sprinkler system*. So...can anyone tell me if the water in the fountain is from the mains or recycled? I mean, we live in the driest state [in the driest continent] and we get another fountain to spray water everywhere. I know water attracts people but is it logical?I'm surprised how green the grass looks, given the spate of the hot weather. They've done well maintaining it. If only the rest of our park lands looked as lush.
Cheers
* Maybe the water from the fountain is recovered and used for the lawn. Am I right on this?

I haven't really checked Victoria square out much, I work about five minutes from there and can't wait for the upgrade to be finished.
Must say the giant bike for Tour Down Under does look pretty cool.

Who cares if your kid gets injured, let them play with anything beyond them and it's the parents fault.

Victoria Square is watered using GAP (recycled) water according to http://www.adelaidecitycouncil.com/asse ... as_map.pdf

Actually it says:mgb wrote:Victoria Square is watered using GAP (recycled) water...
All areas of the Park Lands irrigated by Council use recycled water from the Glenelg Treatment Works apart from the following:
Victoria Square/Tarndanyangga, etc.
I got a feeling it isn't, but that's why I wanted to know for certain.not sure though if that includes the fountain / water feature
Cheers
P.S. Thanks to rogue and mgb for the links.

When did we decide that this was a water feature for children to run under? Why can't we have thing that are just appreciated for their appearance rather than having to be interactive. People are over sensitive in this city. Hell, why don't we question who would be held accountable if a child drowned in the new Three Rivers Fountain?...
[COM] Re: #U/C: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m
Considering how kids are raised to be little soft pansies these days who need a bandaid for every little scratch they get, running through this fountain with ti's 1.5m high jets will probably toughen them up a little bit.[Shuz] wrote:Saw the fountain in operation when going past on the tram yesterday about 6ish. The jets are pretty powerful - they shoot up about 1.5m high. Is this appropriate for a 'kids play feature' ? They're little human beings... surely jets of 50cm will suffice... No need to let the fire hose loose on them.

Isn't it a "water play area" or something anyway?
The plans suggested it was specifically for people to splash about in, rather than a fountain as such.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree kids these days are getting a little too precious and are being constantly wrapped up in cotton wool. They could definitely use quite a fair bit of toughening up. (Sorry to go off track again a moment, but speaking of which, there's a great article in the design section of InDaily regarding children's playgrounds and the need for more 'rough & natural' experiences. I recommend reading it)
Anyways, I'm just not sure 1.5m high jets of high pressure water is the way to go about it? Just turn the pressure down a notch - to a metre, maybe? I know I'm being pedantic. But if it is what it is - fine. The onus is on the parents to make that call whether its suitable for their children to play in. If I had kids, I'd let them play around in it. I'm not one of those types that if my child were to get hurt because they slipped or something, that I'd sue the council. I loathe those people who think suing everyone is the solution to everything.

I wouldn't be too worried about the pressure of the water. If it only jets to 1.5m high, then it is at a pressure of approximately 1.5m head or 15kPa.
Your mains water at home is under minimum pressure of 20m (usually closer to 30m) of head.
It is most definitely not "high pressure"!

I have no idea what any of that means or what you just said.victorious80 wrote:I wouldn't be too worried about the pressure of the water. If it only jets to 1.5m high, then it is at a pressure of approximately 1.5m head or 15kPa.

His point was that the energy of the water coming out of the fountain was quite low compared to what comes through the water mains to your tap.
