Can't wait to see how my wheelchair bay is at Adelaide Oval over Football Park.

Its a pity the SACA Members aren't supporting the Australia Day ODI. The five bays they have been allocated in the Riverbank Stand are 70 per cent empty! There's 5000 seats that the General public would have loved to sat in! CA will be furious especially as the seats are going for $100 each on level 5!
The Western stand was 80 per cent empty for the last Strikers game on Wednesday night too! Pretty pathetic really. The General admission areas were sold out for all four Strikers games but the members let the crowds down for the last two Strikers games.

Given the prices SACA Members pay for their membership for what they get (4 BBL games, 1 test and 1 ODI - the Sheffield Shield is free for everyone so that doesn't really count in the value of the membership), I'm surprised at the very high no-show rate by the SACA members this summer.justinpa1 wrote:Its a pity the SACA Members aren't supporting the Australia Day ODI. Agreed, a really poor showing.
Crowd figure was weird though. The southern stand was basically full for the Strikers, as compared to the ODI with the 5 empty bays.
Western Stand looked a similar attendance, while the hill was sold out for both games.
Yet the strikers crowd was 21,000, ODI was 26,000.
Doesn't make sense.
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
Trying to judge attendance at Adelaide Oval you need to also consider the couple thousand members who sit behind the western stand where there are marquees/bars/food stalls setup for them which spills out onto Adelaide Oval 2. Don't know about the ODI or Strikers games, but for the Ashes test match they even had bands playing.
So the discrepancy you point out of a few thousand is explainable by the members area behind the western stand. A crowd back there would be much bigger then it would be during a Strikers game.
What they should do, is have a system in place where extra tickets are available at the gate.
Have it so members if they plan on going to a match on a particular day, they confirm that with SMA/ticketing mob. Include such a feature in the new Adelaide Oval app for smart phones.
If 5,000 out of 10,000 members confirm they are going, then 5,000 extra tickets at the game become available.
So much public money is spent on sporting venues, with the people running them being paid very well, it's time they ensured venues are as close to capacity as often as possible. Big attendances will also ensure we get big games like the Australia Day ODI.

I dont't think this will be needed once the eastern stand is completed. It will be pretty rare cricket will sell out Adelaide Oval I think.rev wrote:What they should do, is have a system in place where extra tickets are available at the gate.

It could be a problem during football season when the members don't turn up.

Member seating arrangements will be different for footy anyway.Hooligan wrote:It could be a problem during football season when the members don't turn up.
What happens with Member seating not being used in cricket is no indication as it's a different thing to watch (8 hours vs 3 hours) and there is a lot of space out the back for cricket too.

I'm a SACA member and I didn't attend the Australia Day ODI. I don't see anything wrong with not attending, I think you people forget that Australia Day is a busy day for anyone, usually when you become a member you keep that membership for life - so what's one Australia Day match in comparison to every other year you have the option to attend? Seemingly people are getting carried away with this new oval business... Sure, we have a new oval; doesn't mean people (especially members) should stop everything they're doing at the drop of a hat and excessively admire the ground - that wasn't an expectation before the redevelopment (which the old AO was just as beautiful) why should it be any different now? I pay my annual fee's and as a result I was able to attend the Ashes test, worth every dollar for that one test if you ask me.
