[COM] South Road Superway | $842m | 3km

Pretty sure he was talking about the spell of heat we had not long ago.
Who really cares if landscaping is done yet or not though. As long as the road is up and able to be used by vehicles. A few extra weeks of speed restrictions on South Road below wont kill anyone. At least you'll be able to go through to Salisbury Highway and the PREXY without detouring through the surrounding suburbs.

Obviously, it would be be better for the government to spend money keeping landscapers on call in case there are cool days when they can randomly be fitted into a construction site, rather than just scheduling them for after the hottest period of the year.

Perth's sister project this could be the Orrong Road Expressway. In 2011, the WA Government asked Main Roads do a feasibility study on this as a free flowing route from the airport to the Perth CBD as an extension of the Gateway WA project. Since then however, there's been little publically released information and one could have assumed that Troy Buswell's floating Orrong Road had since sunk without a trace.
That was until I found this,
http://www.urbsol.com.au/projects.html
The Orrong Road expressway is listed as one of the projects.
The ultimate solution could either be an expressway under of over the existing Orrong Road.
The complete Orrong Rd Expressway Feasibility Analysis was released to the WA government by the above company on 14 Jun 2013. Being after the WA state election and the promises therein on urban rail, this project could still be a goer. For the road (and pedestrian) geek, the above link also lists a number of other WA projects.

This just in from Facebook:
South Road Superway opens to traffic for the first time!
The Superway’s southbound carriageway was opened to traffic today, with works continuing to complete the historic project.
The 2.8km elevated roadway, which spans 83 metres across Grand Junction Road, will cut travel times by up to seven minutes for up to 45,000 vehicles that use the section of road every day.
Although construction works are still underway, when the project is completed the 4.8km non-stop corridor will deliver reduced delays for freight and commuter traffic.
The north-bound carriageway of the Superway is expected to open in March 2014, subject to weather conditions.
The Superway forms a key part of the State Government’s vision for a 78km north-south corridor stretching from Gawler to Old Noarlunga.

According to the news, the northbound lanes are set to open in March.
But who knows when in March, I mean, technically this is still January, you know?

Based on the amount of work that clearly need to be done on the northbound lanes, I'd be amazed if it were completed by March.Phantom wrote:According to the news, the northbound lanes are set to open in March.

However, the events of 15 March may actually see a rush of work and it somehow completed on time...

From Channel 7's YouTube account. This was also on their evening bulletin tonight.

Also, found this little gem from Channel 9's YouTube account that aired yesterday.
Keep an ear out for Tom Koutsantonis' epic quote at the 0:53 mark.

Really Tom? Did you just say that? HAHAHA!

Went along the road this evening, and it's a great road to travel on - well worth the wait. Can't wait for the return trip to be complete as well.
One thing I found odd was they're not using the variable speed signs yet - even though at least the first set are clearly operational as the sign above it is working. I hope they don't become like the variable speed limit signs on Port Wakefield Rd which work/operate when they feel like it.

The entrance from the Port River Expressway is now open for the down track.
[COM] Re: U/C: South Road Superway | $842m | 3km
Well then maybe they could change the sign just before the Hanson Road exit on the Port River Expressway? I understand It displays 'traffic hazard on M2, expect delays' because it is not at full speed yet but it has been displaying that for for about 3 or 4 months so it adds confusion to motorists still thinking it's closed (or at least me anyway)Brucetiki wrote:The entrance from the Port River Expressway is now open for the down track.

It will be interesting to see if Adelaide's big wet has any impact on when the northbound carriageway is opened.
[COM] Re: U/C: South Road Superway | $842m | 3km
Any news yet on when northbound carriageway will open to traffic?

When the Southbound opened, they were saying Northbound would open in March. I don't think there has been any revision of this. I expect it to be within the last few days of the month, similar to the Jan 31st opening, with a last minute rush, just to ensure they meet their deadline.
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!
[COM] Re: U/C: South Road Superway | $842m | 3km
The northbound carriageway is all but complete. There's a sign just before South Rd exit saying that it will be open 'soon'. Hoping it's in the next week or so, but expecting it to be the end of the month.
