Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
In the last picture, you can see the carriage full of bags of some description. Anyone know what the bags are? They sort of look like blankets???
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say the bags are filled up with something and are meant to imitate people's weight load (i.e. the number of passengers onboard the trains) to suss out the engineering specs upon arrival into the station and make sure everything's operational to standard.

The seats are covered with plastic to protect them from sandbags. The sandbags are to simulate passenger loads.Uncle Monty wrote:In the last picture, you can see the carriage full of bags of some description. Anyone know what the bags are? They sort of look like blankets???
(Inspectors will turn up later to fine all the sandbags for fare evasion.)
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
The bags are indeed representations of "die lumpen proletariat".....you know......the passengers.
Except the bags don't spill coke on the seats, or deliberately scratch the windows, or hassle other bags, or evade paying the fare......

Seaford trains to start rolling from Sunday
TRAIN services for passengers will start running between the city and Seaford from Sunday, the State Government has announced.
Premier Jay Weatherill today said commuters in the south had put up with significant disruption and now was time for a “pay off”.
He said it was expected electric trains would run on the line, pending a decision by a national safety regulator.
The announcement follows a pledge to electrify rail to Salisbury.
The move is part of State Government’s Rail Revitalisation project, aimed at improving public transport options for SA’s commuters.
Between Adelaide and Seaford there will be a mix of new electric trains and the existing diesel fleet.
The Opposition has been heavily critical of the Government’s management of the project and last month accused it of missing construction deadlines and bungling communication with commuters.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said at the time that commuters of the south had “been very patient with our once-in-a-generation infrastructure build that will revolutionise the way people travel”.
“Whether it’s the duplicated Southern Expressway or a brand new extended and electrified
train line, southern suburbs commuters have put up with construction works, congestion and
substitute services,” he said last month.
“But their reward will be a world-class transport and road system.”
