Typical piss-ant article from this reporter. What more could you expect from an Adelaide journalist? Complain about what's been built but can't offer an alternative. Yes, the plaza is stupid, the fact they've left an old road bridge in-tact is stupid, and the fact that they have a footbridge that is curved for no good reason is stupid; but someone give some inspiration for further change, not just piss and moan like the useless Peter Goers.

Personally, I think with a hotel planned for the Eastern side of the plaza - foot-traffic should pick up a little more on that side. on the Western side I'd love to see the displayed plane in the long-term car-park relocated to the plaza, fill in a large portion on this space and surround it with cafe's.

Patrick_27, her complaints are justified. She's not the only one. Speak to those that use the airport. As for an alternative, she did offer one. Re-open the ramp road to departures. All they need to do is be strict about time limits. The inspectors that walk up and down under the car park will still have a job but on the elevated road. The excuse for closing the ramp was for better security. That is BS and we all know that. I gave an inspector an example how I could just walk into the terminal with my 20-odd kg rollercase and set off a bomb that would kill hundreds! He replied that they knew that but management wanted the changes. So I think the piss-ant remark should be directed at someone else. I'm sorry.

What I would have liked to have read in her article is how overseas international airports handle drop-offs, pick-ups, parking and traffic issues.

As for further change: maybe they should enclose the footbridge and air-condition it during our hot spells. I'm not saying enclosed in the sense it is permanent but have louvres to open and close when required. I think most people would want to board their planes in a comfortable manner. Not having to sweat their way onto long-haul flights.

You mentioned the hotel. Yes, that would also bring benefits. Another change would be light rail. The sooner they add this the better. I not one of those that subscribe to the notion it is too early for a light rail link. It’s projects like this that can propel a second tier airport and a city to being world class. I would rather see this implemented than extending a tram all the way to Port Adelaide.

Evening all,

Cathay Pacific have finally been updated their timetables. Below is the schedule for the new direct flights which will arrive into Adelaide for the 1st time on Monday March 31st 2014. From 6/4/14 the schedule changes to the new time of 0510 arrival. Good luck to Cathay Pacific!!!

Adelaide has given up the CX105/104 flight numbers which will be given to Melbourne. Our direct flights give us a new set of flight numbers:

schedule Effective March 31st 2014 to 5/4/14 (Monday, Wednesday & Friday only)

CX173 Dep HKG 1900 Arr ADL 0610+1
CX174 Dep ADL 0720 Arr HKG 1345

Schedule Effective 6/4/14 (Flights will operate on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday & Friday)

Looking at their schedules, Jetstar from 6/4/14 will be increasing its Denpasar flight from 3 times a week to Daily.

Schedule from 1/4/14 to 5/4/14

JQ128 Dep DPS 2315 Arr ADL 0715 (This inbound flight will operate 1/4/14 to 4/4/14)
JQ127 Dep ADL 1845 Arr DPS 2135 (This outbound flight will operate 1/4/14 to 5/4/14)

From Sunday 6/4/14- The flight will increase to Daily

JQ127 Dep ADL 1745 Arr DPS 2135

With this increase, From 6/4/14 it will take Adelaide's total international flights to 56 a week (112 return flights a week).

Spot on. The author is totally correct. The drop off pick up arrangements are absurd and not matched by any international airport of size that I've been too which is everything in Asia and most in Europe. It's gotta change

Forumers, if you're going to exercise your right to free speech about the excellent new facilities at Adelaide Airport, could we please at least do it in the correct thread. In that thread, you'll find all the answers to why the new setup is the way it is. If you really still feel the need to criticise, at least direct it at the relevant aviation security authorities within the Federal Government, rather than the Airport.

The expansion of Adelaide Airport in Australia (AAL) will add approximately 20,000 square meters of space to the southern apron, creating additional parking for an additional four aircraft.

I've seen the actual written report. Also if the Aussie dollar (at time of writing yo-yoing around the $USD0.894) drops lower we'll see Americans return. Question is we need to lure them away from the east coast. But I agree about China Southern, or any other mainland China airline. The potential there is huge. Our current and future State Government need to invest in some good marketing strategically targeted at China. That would be money well spent rather than wasting it on some ill-conceived short-term taxpayer-funded construction jobs.

Cathay Pacific: Adelaide, Melbourne flights go direct to Hong Kong
Cathay Pacific will upgrade all Adelaide-Hong Kong and Melbourne-Hong Kong flights to non-stop services next month.

The move will give travellers a much shorter trip compared to the current triangular 'tag' routing, which sees all Adelaide flights stop over at Melbourne en route to Hong Kong while one of the three daily Hong Kong to Melbourne services detours via Adelaide.

It's estimated that the direct flights out of Adelaide, which begin March 30, will shave some three hours off the journey as the aircraft will no longer need to stop over at Melbourne to pick up more passengers before heading north.

Adelaide loses daily flights
However, as part of the schedule shuffle Cathay Pacific will reduce its Adelaide-Hong Kong schedule from a daily frequency to four flights a week.

Flight CX173 will operate from Hong Kong to Adelaide on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Between March 30 and April 4 this will depart Hong Kong at 7pm to reach Adelaide at 6.10am the next day, shifting back to a 5.10am arrival as of April 5.

The new non-stop flight CX174 will leave Adelaide every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6.20am from March 30 to April 4, then 7.20am from April 5 onwards, touching down in Hong Kong at 1.45pm.

Adelaide's new flights will offer more streamlined connections to Europe – "particularly the UK, which is one of our top destinations for passengers from South Australia" ...as well as China, "which is increasingly important for South Australian exporters."

CX174's early afternoon arrival into Hong Kong will provide connections onto nine Chinese cities within four hours "and onto eight more destinations within the day" ...

“It's even better for travellers to the UK, where the connection is now a mere 50 minutes in Hong Kong to CX253 which departs at 2.35pm."

"The efficiency of Hong Kong International Airport means luggage is seamlessly moved to the onward flights within this time, so passengers can get to the final destination as quickly as possible."

Will be heading to Melbourne on Friday morning and returning about 24 hours later, first time at the airport since November last year. Curious to see how complete everything is now, from memory there were still the smallest of works continuing back then.

In terms of an airport hotel I don't think there's really a demand for it here in Adelaide
because the airport is so close to the city. In a city like Melbourne where the terminal
is a fair distance out from the CBD, a hotel near the airport is useful.

On another note, I went to Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and was surprised by how
crappy the Jetstar area is at Tullamarine. It reminded me of the old Adelaide airport.
