Really? They couldn't open it for many of the big cricket games since the ashes but they can open it for a private function?

Smells fishy.
I guess they had to finish the paving and safety rails first, and now that's just about done. Was great to see pedestrian movement on the bridge. It really brings the river area alive. Also shows that the bridge will be getting a lot of use outside of cricket/football events, despite what the opponents have been claiming.

My problem was to allow it to be used for a private function. Too elitist imo

Why not, if it didn't really get in the way of construction work?

Those watermarks are rather obnoxious, and its not just the choice of team.

Irony?!??
If the Libs win the upcoming state election....
Vision:
Vickie Chapman and or Rachel Sanderson 'opening' the Torrens Footbridge they so vehemently opposed as a waste of money.

Sanderson even organized a protest march against it.
Then Ms Chapman complained loudly that it wasn't opened sooner!!!
Will they cut the new footbridge ribbon, laud its praises???

Revisit some S-A forum posts.

Is there an official end of construction/'handover' date?
Will the footbridge be open for the Rolling Stones AO celebratory concert - before the AFL Showdown or is the AFL match the target?
Can't wait!

If people stop using my photos without giving me credit I will stop putting a watermark.

it is a great footbridge

but it still doesn't really achieve what it set out to.

you have to cross a road once you get off and go through the back door of the train station, both aren't great outcomes in my opinion.

hopefully, down the track they will be able to upgrade the entrance to the train station.

but closing the road on match day will be the only option on the other side you would have thought.

The city entrance to the bridge is a bit messy at the moment but when the Casino builds its new hotel it will take up most of that area. Pedestrians will move through a type of tunnel I reckon to get to the station. Meanwhile it's basically a part time loading dock for the Intercontinental, and not real attractive. On the Oval side though Memorial Drive will be closed to traffic on match days.

Yeah I know that bit it would have been nice to avoid having to wait for cars on every other day or when they don't feel the need to close the road

I don't mind it not being closed, but it should be clearer that it's a shared zone. I know there's some bumps either side which will slow traffic down, but the roadway should really be paved (ala the central road in Victoria Sq) so that it blends in better with the bridge and the plaza (instead of plain old bitumen) and it reinforces the use of the space. I'm really surprised they didn't to be honest.

that is a great idea.

But given how many times ive nearly been run over on the Pirie Street zebra crossing you would want a lot of signs

DPTI are currently working on this area at the moment. The plans I have seen include making the area more open and clearly distinguished walkway through to the bridge.

How would you guys feel about seeing the bitumen around the area painted to look like pavers? Is that a good idea or tacky?
