[COM] Re: U/C: South Road Superway | $842m | 3km
Travelling on the southbound carriageway yesterday, I note that on the parts of the northbound carriageway that I could see over the central barrier, line marking was complete.
The southbound carriageway itself was still restricted to a speed limit of 60 km/hr and on one part 25 km/hr in association with a lane closure and associated minor works.
Nice views over the city and the coloured side panels over Grand Junction Road and Days Road intersections add a nice touch. Not much sign yet of that induced demand. There was not a lot of traffic on the elevated carriageway itself.
Further along South Road, not much has happened with the Torrens Road to River Torrens section since Xmas. A couple more house blocks may have been cleared and there was some ongoing survey works, but other than that it looked little changed. That section was congested north of Port Road, as usual.
Travel time was around noon.

Just because you don't understand induced demand doesn't make it not true. Induced demand expectations were factored into the planning of the Superway, right up to greenhouse gas emissions forecasts, drsmith wrote:... Not much sign yet of that induced demand. ...

It's quite a nice road tbh, will be great once the speed limit goes up to 100. Views are great from the top day or night. The only problem I could find with it is they call it North-South "motorway" but the signs coming onto it say "expressway", one of them needs correcting.

had a drive on it last week, to quote a Seinfeld episode, "these wide lanes are so luxurious!". I seemed to be the only car on there, enjoyed the view of the city too. It's a nice piece of road, unfortunately its over very quickly though.

Been fun reading through some of the posts. A truly difficult project to build, when one considers the logistics.
Landscaping to continue at grade for the next 8 weeks culminating in the planting and swale treatments.
Enjoy what is an iconic project and a truly fantastic stretch of motorway.
Now its for a break and a

12:40am was when it opened. Got there, workmen were just about to open it, so did a lap down Days Rd, came back and it was open. Is just as brilliant northbound as it is southbound. Can't wait for the variable speed signs to operate and we can travel along at 90 km/h.superway_sam wrote:Well 10PM to be exactPort Adelaide Fan wrote:South Road Superway - northbound carriageway open midnight 13 March:

So the speed limit is still 60?

I travelled on it last night, only going Southbound and the speed limit along that side was indeed 60kph. Not only that, but there would've been about 6 cars that were on the bridge within the distance I could see in front of me and behind. It was really quite dead (this was at about 7:00pm).
I also noticed not one car going along the Northbound lanes during the 3 minutes I was on it. (However there were a construction utes parked there). When I reached the offramp just past Days Rd, it looked as though cars were being diverted under the Superway. I dunno if this was just a one off, but it seemed a bit strange being the day it was meant to open!

At 7:00PM on Thursday the Northbound wasn't open yet, so that sounds about right. I went along it Friday night, around 10PM, and it was actually quite busy for that time of the night. There were a good dozen cars around, in both directions. It's a great road, and will be great to drive on it at 90!Phantom wrote:I also noticed not one car going along the Northbound lanes during the 3 minutes I was on it. Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!
