I think something that could be done in the next few years is recladding of the Morphett St bridge with some contemporary panelling (perhaps that material which appears to change colour depending on the sunlight) and also lit up with LED feature lighting at night. I dont think it would be terribly expensive to do.

Morphett St Bridge should be modernised and turned into another riverbank landmark. It could be transformed into a mini suspension bridge, with lighting and a wider footpath including better pedestrian access from the ground level.

Considering we don't have many opportunities to build bridges in SA, I believe it's an idea that should be investigated.

I'm really not a fan of this two-tone paver effect we're seeing lately. It's more successful in the Mall, but here it looks as though they had to rip it up for service works and ran out of matching bricks.

That said, the designers have been absolutely vindicated by the placement and architecture of the bridge. The curvature frames the riverbank beautifully, as TooFar's excellent photos show. Thanks TooFar!

Agree. Trying to make an organic pattern with geometric shapes is never going to end well.

I walked across it for the first time yesterday.

The paving as you approach (from the Festival Centre end) looks ok (not fantastic, but very respectable) but the paving along most of the bridge looks dirty, drab, and I suppose must have been designed by the same person who designed the new paving in Rundle Mall. It has the same messy, wobbly lines all along it. Looks as if someone scribbled on it!

Other than the paving, great job!

I honestly thought that the new airport plaza would set a new bar for the quality and style of paving we could expect to see in other public areas around Adelaide and the state.
Alas, this has not been the case. I think the style of paving in Rundle Mall and the Footbridge is mediocre at best. It looks incredibly untidy and mismatched. This seems to be a current trend which I am not a fan of.

The new airport plaza is aesthetically pleasing, stimulating, modern, clean, pleasant and relaxing. Had Rundle Mall been done in a similar style it would have been fantastic. As for the paving on the bridge, perhaps the airport plaza style isn't necessarily the right style for it, but something equally good could surely have been done.

They pay the designers of these things massive amounts of our money. If dirty looking blocks with (as Mants rightly put it) messy and mismatched colours is really the best those designers could do, they should have paid me to come up with a design. I know very little about how to design paving, but I most definitely could have come up with much better designs for the mall and the footbridge paving, for a tiny fraction of the cost!

Considering we don't have many opportunities to build bridges in SA, I believe it's an idea that should be investigated.

Many people driving into the city from the North turn off O 'Connell street and come down Jeffcott Street and Montefiore Rd making that bridge a gateway bridge. Eventually I would like to see it snazzied up a bit as described above...good idea.

Looks great... I think the at the Oval end where the majority of pedestrians are going to cross the road should have a raised cobblestone effect..kind of like a really big speed bump. People will be using the bridge on days when it isn't a big event with Police closing WMD. will slow any traffic down so pedestrians can frogger their way across without needing a traffic light setup.

It's looking good and am looking forward to the waterfall feature esp. lit up at night... Does anyone know if this and the water feature near the Festival theatre steps will be on 24/7?
My only negative comment is the random lighter colour paving design on the bridge...why?
