I'm no civil engineer but I can't imagine the contractors left their laser level home that day...............

Unlike suspension bridges a girder bridge requires a camber between load bearing points. Especially between a big span like that. Throw in the arc of the structure and I'm surprised the camber isn't greater....

I think it's time to enjoy the bridge rather than find things to pick on .......

They are certainly vast improvements on what we had. However I don't think that it automatically follows that we should therefore accept mediocrity. Having seen vastly better standards elsewhere in the world, I want nothing but the absolute best for Adelaide. When things fall short of that, I certainly will vent my frustrations.

That doesn't mean I don't think the above developments aren't better than they were before.

Serca, I love the bridge, it looks awesome! I mentioned that this was my first walk across it and as more or less my first impression that I noticed this large dent in it. Even a friend of mine who was with me at the time said that it looked awesome, but that it had been brought down by that imperfection. This bridge cost roughly $40,000,000. As a taxpayer just like yourself, I think we've earned and paid for the right to voice our concerns over something like this.

DaveAdl, this is honestly one of the only things that I've knocked about anything related to infrastructure in Adelaide! I understand that there has been a great deal of negatives focused on the paving pattern on the bridge, but I do feel this dent is a serious issue that needs to be seriously and promptly addressed. If you want to be oblivious to issues and live with rose coloured glasses on about this, then that's fine. But that's something that you and I will continue to hold different views upon.

Dog, your agreement to the above posts seems hypocritical. You have 85 posts in the Federal Politics thread and of those, how many would you honestly say aren't written in a way that shows that you are unhappy with the Liberal Party? Perhaps you should think about what you're agreeing with, rather than merely boosting your post count with two word responses?

This is a forum designed for us to talk facts and figures and to discuss the pros and cons about Adelaide. As long as we bring up logical points and discuss them in an adult manner, that shouldn't cause issues, surely?

So for about 50 hours a year the bridge is too narrow?
I think it's clearly too wide, why for the other 8710 hours in the year it won't be used to transport "cattle"
I was on the bridge the other day and there was a max of a dozen people on it and it was insanely wide.
Seriously for the the 0.006% of the year it will be used for in an excessive way we should have a 20 meter wide bridge?
It's a nice bridge just very out of scale for the 99.994% of the year it wont be used for massive crowds.
Also are the barriers extra high so they can have events on the bridge? now that would be cool.

So, I walked across the bridge last night for the first time and noticed something. There is a very noticable dip/dent in it, right above the southeastern bank, near the Oval.

Here's an answer to this...

A noticeable kink in the span of the bridge where it meets the northern bank has been queried by some users, but the spokesman said it was part of the approved design.

“As the bridge spans across Torrens, the bridge slopes down from the south bank to the north bank,” he said.

“From the north bank to the bridge’s viewing platform, the bridge is flat.

“The change from the sloping bridge to the flat section and the horizontal curvature of the bridge accentuates the transition between these levels.”

I'm pretty sure the Advertiser just read up on the comments made here on Sensational-Adelaide and twisting the story so that it's made to look like a journalist has actually walked on the bridge and asked people what they thought of it.

They're getting more and more ridiculous. Same with the story about replacing a few pavers and strips of timber in Victoria Sq - something that would be completely expected in any project like this, and covered by the contractors (so additional cost to the council). Their editor claims that they're for a progressive city, but all they do is rain negativity on everything.

see 'alternate bridge proposal' earlier on in the discussion where it was envisioned as being even wider but would also become a place for public events with a stage etc.

I went down there yesterday and it's still a work in progress ... doesnt look like it will be finished soon. Maybe 1+ monyhs from completion.
The steps are done but they are still finishing off the concrete foundations for the water feature section.
