36,000 today - a good crowd given that brisbane are not much of a drawcard.

Port vs Geelong in 2 weeks, I think they could get close 50,000.

How big is the new car park built under the Eastern stand ie how many cars (roughly) does it fit? I was told its just for players, officials, coaches etc...Wasn't there a plan to build a major car park as part of the development...can't remember where...anyone know what happened to that idea?

That was said planned carpark. The only one I heard about anyway.
Kochie was saying on the radio yesterday that the northern carpark (Light's Vision) was only 60% full on Showdown day because so many extra people caught public transport.

I believe the major carpark you speak of (please correct me if I'm wrong) was being considered for the western side of the Morphett Bridge (where the Uni's will be building their medical facilities), obviously this was prior to any other plans developing for that area.

Shouldn't be a big issue, parking. The northern end of the oval, the Torrens Parade Grounds and the new Festival Theatre carpark should all cater enough to ensure that not too many cars are flowing onto the streets.

I went to The MCG on easter Monday, and the Adelaide oval on Sunday and i can't believe how similar both grounds are for atmosphere for watching footy. I thought nothing was close to watching a game with a packed house at the G but sunday at the oval was amazing and we should be very proud of our Oval. Although being a geelong supporter the result wasn't the best.

New figures show more people are turning out each week to watch AFL at revamped Adelaide Oval

THE launch of AFL in the city has produced a boom in crowd numbers, up more than 40 per cent on the same time last season.

The average crowd after the first five matches at the new Adelaide Oval has been 45,184, compared with 31,772 for the first five games at AAMI Stadium in 2013.

Sports Minister Leon Bignell said an extra 67,000 people had already passed through the gates at Adelaide Oval and the soaring attendances were “providing an enormous economic boost for South Australian football”.

Mr Bignell said the government was working to attract both the fans and corporate backers of interstate clubs.

“They didn’t like coming to Adelaide when they had to play at Football Park but now that it’s Adelaide Oval they can’t wait to get here and show their fans and their corporate sponsors the best footy stadium in Australia,” he said.

“We’re encouraging supporters to come for the game and stay on for the Barossa, McLaren Vale or many other beautiful regions we have on offer.

“The best money we can have in our economy is the money that comes from the pockets of visitors from Victoria, Western Australia, NSW and Queensland.

“With hundreds, if not thousands of interstate fans set to converge on Adelaide each weekend, for at least 20 weeks of the year, this is a huge economic boost for Adelaide and our regions and is really cementing our reputation as a vibrant and enticing destination.”

The Round 2 Showdown crowd of 50,397 was close to 10,000 more than the 40,707 who came to the Crows-Power clash in Round 3 last year.

The lowest crowd so far this season was 36,321 when Port Adelaide played Brisbane.

By this time last year there had been three AAMI Stadium crowds of less than 27,000.

Yeah, it would be nice if I could actually watch an AFL game at Adelaide Oval on free-to-air televisin here in Melbourne. And here I thought the Port and Geelong game would be a priority for free-to-air because it was the top two playing, but no it obviously wasn't.

Just from watching the highlights on the news it was easy to see the difference in crowds between Adelaide and Melbourne. Adelaide Oval looked like it was almost full and Docklands looked not so full with lots of large patches of empty seats. A Victorian would probably argue there was something else on, I guess they were right this time, the Tasting Australia event was also quite busy in Victoria Square haha

When you consider that our two team town has the ability to fill 45-50K seats (often when hosting an interstate team) and two lesser Vic teams can't even fill docklands most days, footy in this state really is in a good place. Yeah yeah there's always the argument that Melbourne has many events going on each weekend, but it's the same deal as the Aus GP. Do we want a couple of great events that the city embraces or do we just want to have everything under the sun and dilute out events calendar just to be the sporting Mecca?

TV schedule is worked out at the same time as the fixture and there are no changes. Generally it's the Friday night game, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon games on Channel 7. Only round that has a chance of getting certain games on certain channels is the final round, but the main reason for that is to ensure teams playing Finals don't play on the Sunday if at all possible.
