Sure is Pikey!

Unrelated, but would love to see another tower built behind the heritage facade of that building on the corner of Hindmarsh Square and Grenfell Street - similar to the practice done with other office towers along Grenfell Street.

Im quite a fan of this building, much much better than other work by Paul.

Would have loved to see it a 25 story tower but still nice!

The design had alot of criticism at the start, though I knew this would be a great looking building :)

It's boxy, but it has sex appeal

Did it? Most of the criticism was around what was knocked down, rather than the building itself.

Hopefully the concrete panels will be left raw rather than painted at the end.

The bulk of criticism was directed at the Jade Monkey being demolished, though there was also criticism at the hotel design.

By far Paul's best design, makes the RAA building and Crowne look like total crap.

Still don't like a brand new hotel to be built with no balconies (if I was a guest). I also wonder about the cost and the frequency of the abseiling window cleaners to keep all this glass clean.
I also understand it may be the business model of the hotel blah blah blah... but while the building looks good it looks more like an office building to me.

In what land do modern hotels have balconies? I'm living in Melbourne at the moment, and not one of the major hotel chains here (modern or old-school) have balconies. Crown Towers, InterContinental, Oaks, Hilton, Hyatt, and so forth. It's probably an unnecessary liability for hotels nowadays to have balconies.

The Rydges South Park on South Terrace has them for the rooms. I guess the Hilton in Victoria Square also kinda does.

I can't think of any more off the top of my head. They're quite uncommon, but they do exist.
