I don't get the logic of the renaming. What's it got to do with Denmark?monotonehell wrote:Since this thread has well and truly left the topic of the original post I've moved it to the Pub and renamed it.

I love Princess Mary.

The best thing to come out of Denmark is Lego and the best thing that went to Denmark is Princess Mary.

And Skype! I have a friend who I Skype quite often who is Danish and she always lets me know they're brought up to all adore Hans Christian Andersen (author of The Little Mermaid) and Danes also introduced insulin to the world!
Also, how about this song?... Okay, how about one that is slightly more modern? (I really hope that one gets stuck in your head)
Danes also are responsible for this puzzle of a building, which is apparently a pilgrimage that all Danes need to take at least once in their lives. Perhaps most importantly, the Danes are also responsible for this, (which I'm sure some of you will love)and also this invention of pure brilliance!
Another thing, is anyone aware of the comic "Scandinavia and the World"? I read it all the time. It's pretty funny. Here's SatW's take on Princess Mary, Wikileaks and Obamacare.
She also told me that apparently Norweigians, Swedes and even Germans come over to Denmark for cheap alcohol (you can get a Somersby for about 8 DKK/$1.60 AUD) and it's not an uncommon sight to see drunken tourists at bars.
EDIT - I forgot the actor Mads Mikkelsen, who played "Le Chiffre" in Casino Royale!

Re: The Denmark Thread
I think the most visible Danish contribution to SA has been the design of these:

Also, something I read in the Fairfax press a day or two ago:
Janet Albrechtsen gently mourned the "debate about broken promises" which "infects politics worldwide". She also told readers the Danish word meaning "debate about broken promises". It's "loftebrudsdebatten"

Re: The Denmark Thread
Holy moly! I imagine it will be a very cold day in hell when Janet Albrechtsen starts writing for the Fairfax press... She writes for The Australian.
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

Re: Beer Garden
I actually have Danish ancestry, and have been to Denmark twice. One of the few countries in the world that makes Australia seem affordable.
Anyone ever had a Yankie Bar? They're like Danish versions of Mars Bars, but better. Also in Denmark, some people eat a thing called Pålægschokolade (had to copy and paste that), which translates roughly to "sandwich topping chocolate". It's yummy.
Has anyone been to A Hereford Beefstouw on Hutt Street? You can get some nice Danish style steaks and whatnot there. Andersens at Glenelg and during the royal show make bloody good ice cream. Better than Royal Copenhagen.
And of course, what skyscraper nerd is complete without Lego?

Interesting concept to fill in the gaps for travel across short distances across the city.
