Nth Tce delays (esp the most recent stage) are linked to a shortage of workers - as a result of current construction in the CBD draining the supply. I remember reading this somewhere but can't remember the source

I'd imagine that designing and implementing the electronics and software would be quite a job... it's not exactly an off-the-shelf system.shuza wrote:6 months! How on earth could such a miniscule project take 6 months?
Anyway, I hope they re-pave the area and do a bit of painting while they're at it... that intersection looks absolutely filthy.

You obviously don't have an appreciation for how complex some technology is to create and install. This isn't exactly a typical straightforward job.crawf wrote:2 years? you gotta be joking. that is just bloody ridiculous
The section is not even that big.
thats a joke. Shame ACC.

That makes sense.MaximumForce wrote:Nth Tce delays (esp the most recent stage) are linked to a shortage of workers - as a result of current construction in the CBD draining the supply. I remember reading this somewhere but can't remember the source
Yes I do, but 24 months is just a ridiculous amount of time for a 250m section.AG wrote:You obviously don't have an appreciation for how complex some technology is to create and install. This isn't exactly a typical straightforward job.
If ACC goes with its plan to completely redevelop all of North Terrace, it will be quite a while before we see it all redeveloped.

clearly you have no idea what needs to be taken into consideration when such a project is undertaken.crawf wrote: Yes I do, but 24 months is just a ridiculous amount of time for a 250m section.

it's like the portrush road upgrade, 3years was it? it couldve taken a few months if they closed it off and did it in one go, but the traffic delays at the time would have been awful. this is probably another factor that would affect the north tce upgrade.
and as AG stated, its not just a matter of resurfacing the road or anything. it involves complex electronic equipment and such.

From what Maximum has said about the North Tce delays are linked to a shortage of workers, sound exactly right to why it will take two years to complete. Yes I know its a very complex job, but if we had more workers than it probably wouldn't take so long to complete.
There is so many projects under construction in SA, but with this state and even Australia going through a skills shortage theres so few workers for these massive project.
Plus the construction of new mines, isn't helping the shortage of construction workers in Adelaide.

The Rundle Convergence project is different from a typical project because the technology involved in it is specialised. It is not straightforward.crawf wrote:Mants wrote: clearly you have no idea what needs to be taken into consideration when such a project is undertaken.

The upgrade of North Terrace, however, is a relatively basic and common job that goes on in thousands of places across the globe. It costs more to hire labour in Australia (we have laws protecting workers which makes it more expensive), hence on most projects fewer workers are hired than compared to our overseas counterparts.
There is a shortage of skilled workers across most of the construction industry, particularly in the engineering sectors and construction management roles. There were over 100 spots offered for Mining Engineering at Adelaide Uni this year, only about 60 were taken up. There is also very few students who opted to do first year Civil Engineering (both environmental and structural, with myself included in that figure), only just over 100 in total. Take into consideration that the Government of South Australia tries to achieve an intake of at least a dozen civil engineers a year, and there are many other firms also trying to achieve similar intakes.

[COM] Re: #Proposed - Rundle Convergence
I think the idea is quite progressive and very interesting. I does not bother me where it is in Adelaide; something so 'wild' and 'artistic' is needed in Adelaide; and i hope the real thing will go ahead and look like the renders. In my opinion Bring it ON - the whole thing too - go for the entire 100% coverage.
Alot of you have mentioned; a big screen...
I think a big public screen is an essential idea for Adelaide; but i would not restrict it to one of the squares. I beileve whereever there is enough foot traffic and space, a big screen should be put in place there. A few ideas are;
The River Torrens between the Casino and Convention Centre or by the Bridge.
Rundle Mall
Victoria Square
But, nontheless i would love to know some more information about the pultney street design; like when was it proposed, by who and will it go ahead?

Courtesy of Will. He informs me this will be approved next week.

Looks good. I take it the second building in those renders is 'Wave'?

The developers have decided to name the buildings after their shape. The curvy one is 'Wave' whereas the more angular one is 'Edge'.AtD wrote:Looks good. I take it the second building in those renders is 'Wave'?
[COM] Row over plans for twin towers
From the advertiser:
THE city development boom is casting a shadow over heritage, residents claim.
Some say they will be left in the dark by a new twin-tower development in the city.
Adelaide City Council has approved the towers for a corner of King William St and Gilles St.
Residents Christopher Smith and Lee Waye told the development assessment panel they intended to retire to their heritage properties in Symonds Place but their quality of life now would be ruined.
Lord Mayor Michael Harbison said the buildings were appropriate.
"Developers have not used all of the site's development allowance because of the need to fit in with surrounding land uses . . ," he said.

It amazes me that people don't check the Development Plan when they buy a property. If this development is within the development plan the cottage owners should have realised that such a development was possible and as such took the gamble that it wouldn't happen. You win some you lose some.
If the development plan changed after they bought the property then they had the opportunity to make a submission to prevent such a development.
