According to the ACC's own figures, less than half of its revenue came from rates.

Parking revenue from U-Park (the off street high rise parks) was $30m. approximately.

What is of interest in this thread is that this was a jump of $4m. due, according to Council, to people using cars in lieu of trains in the previous financial year.

So, it would be worth checking this again next year, same time, to see if the reinstatement of the rail service clawed back any passengers.

I read the article as well, basically I agree with what he has to say, but being more positive, there is a little light at the end of the tunnel - the new electric trains are slowly being delivered, allowing higher frequencies on the diesel section of the network in the near future.
Hopefully the average Joe also thinks the trains are worth throwing into their transport mix after experiencing the weekend AFL excitement....
Just diverting slightly, but what is disappointing in 2014 is that Adelaide is yet to see any real progress towards one transit-oriented-development, not Bowden, no-where...Whether Bowden train station is redeveloped is now under doubt with the state government's plan to convert the Outer Harbor corridor to light rail. Salisbury, Port Adelaide and Noarlunga Centre should be massive tod's in my opinion.

Bowden is underway. The thing about TODs is that they carry massive risk. Government investment into Bowden will total around $1-2 billion. If it fails then it'll be damn tricky to build a case for a TOD anywhere else. TODs aren't just a collection of apartments and high density living around a transit stop, they are designed to be destinations in themselves, and to develop a destination you need culture and life. This does not happen overnight, so Bowden will take time. If successful then we will see Noarlunga and Elizabeth next, I'd guess.

Salisbury has hit a major snag. The council is slowly renewing the town centre; however, they have recently found that their ambition of three-four storey residential developments around the area are unpopular as nobody has bought in, or offered to.

The problem is lack of government funds for operational purposes. Extra services are due to be funded by the city car park tax I believe.

Seems like a fair deal, the amount of car parks in the Adelaide CBD is entirely excessive, no other state has such a large percentage of the city as multi-story carparks. Guess where the uber rich Adelaide City Council gets most of it's money from ? Yup they own most of the car parks.

All 40,000 of those car spaces too. Yes, 40,000, all in the CBD.

I live in Salisbury and am a ten minute walk from the town centre. For anything to be successful it needs to capitalise on its ethnic diversity. It is a very multicultural area, and the town centre has a great vibe on weekend mornings.

Totally agree with you there, it could become something like Bankstown/Liverpool or Box Hill/Dandenong

Salisbury is already the most Box Hill like suburb we have. But I expect the house prices there are dragged down by its proximity to Elizabeth.
And no, that's not meant as a dig at Elizabeth - it's just that it's very near the Holden factory at Elizabeth South. With that and some other manufacturers closing, the local unemployment rate is high.

I can't judge as I have never been to Box Hill, but Salisbury is pretty unique in Adelaide. It's essentially the African and southern/western Asian version of Henley Beach Road in Torrensville (Greek and Italian). This identity needs to be strengthened even more to literally keep the nasties out that drift around the area at night.

4007T has already been delivered last weekend, I'd heard on other forums that 4007A or B was on it's way, but don't know if it's actually be delivered yet. I was going to go by today at some point and to see if anything further had been delivered through the week.

Actually it's the bodies in the barrels case that did that, the killers lived in Salisbury North.

All 3 carriages of 4007 have apparently arrived and been joined together.
Anyway, the reason 4007 has taken so long to appear, is a few changes to the base design (some issues with coupler swing for instance) and 4007 is the prototype for those changes.

I heard the same rumour as well from a few sources outside of Failpage, however this was proven false when I was told by someone with more credibility that there were minor design changes as opposed to a crash test off the back of a truck.

Well that didn't take long: Seaford Line has been shut down and crews are now on site making repairs to fallen overhead wiring(?) or something.. services are experiencing delays and trains are terminating at Noarlunga and replacement buses are working between there and Seaford, it's expected to be fixed by morning.
