with the high number of obese people in this country, I pity the poor guy who has to transport someone weighing 200+ kg

that's if they dont break the thing as they try to climb aboard it

A fleet of 50 tricyles could be transporting people around Adelaide for free before the end of year.

They're saying all this like there isn't already an established fleet of pedicabs all over Adelaide. Difference is the pedicabs are a business and charge fares.

Come to think of it, I did see this treeshaw cruising down KWS the other morning.

Fascinating photo feature article in a UK newspaper:
Adelaide - Darwin journey - by bicycle - 100 years ago.

It's difficult to imagine the hardship and the fears in a hostile environment a century ago but the thrill of the adventure, the difficult route and the adventurer's relationship with the indigenous population is recorded by this set of photos and details of the historic journey.

Through the heart of Australia on two wheels:
Amazing photographs chronicle explorer's 3,000km, four-week solo bike ride through the outback and finished in Darwin 100 years ago today. 28 days does seem incredible?
Edward 'Ryko' Reichenback cycled from Adelaide to Darwin at the age of 21
The 3,000km journey took him 28 days to complete. He arrived at the Darwin Post Office 100 years ago today.

The Northern Territory Library have released photographs of his journey to commemorate the centenary.

The keen photographer took more than 3,000 photographs of the Northern Territory but they were stolen from his apartment and only a few hundred are available to the public, from private collections or libraries.
Read the article, view the amazing set of historic photos.

At first, we thought Magic Mountain's water slides were sold for scrap ten years ago, until I found this page!

On the 20th of September, the Tramway Museum at St Kilda will be hosting a special night time photography and enthusiasts event. Running from 3:00pm until 10:00pm, the event will feature a number of Museum trams (including several not run in traffic often) will be used making a few photo stops along the running line to make the most of the late afternoon sun and the City lights that shine through the night sky. As well as the trams, a number of vintage props will be used to create scenes to be photographed throughout the event. The cost of the ticket not only includes the tram rides but also dinner and workshop tours. These are only part of the action packed program!

This is an exclusive event with only limited places so bookings are essential. We look forward to seeing you there!

Got some spare change? this would be a neat place to live:

For Sale - 101 Grote Street Adelaide SA 5000
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I've been in there. The space is awkward and unliveable.

The SA State Library, on our cultural boulevarde North Terrace, has been highlighted in a few recent media articles, having been listed amongst the top 20 most beautiful libraries in the world.
Some great pics in this Daily Mail item.
Adelaide's magnificent 'Harry Potter-esque' library has been named one of the most beautiful in the world.

Featuring masonry columns, painted gold features, two galleries, wrought iron balustrading and a glass-domed lantern roof, a wing of the South Australian State Library has been listed among the top-20 most beautiful libraries in the world.

The Mortlock Wing opened in 1884 in Adelaide CBD, and still features original furniture and a large Dent and Son clock over its main hall.

Now that SA (SAJC) is banning jumps races, what will happen to the traditional big Easter event for SA? The Oakbank jumps Carnival will lose its main attraction. Will it morph into a big picnic race meeting in the Hills? Will the traditional Easter event decline in significance / lose its ability to be a major drawcard?

Is it time Adelaide and SA provided a major event, series or festival etc for locals and visitors over Easter? Sydney has its Easter Show. Melbourne - Comedy Festival? Other main cities?

Some folk head to the country or interstate/O/S for the 4 day extended Easter break, some participate in religious activities, but other locals and visitors (inter/intrastate and overseas) need an interesting alternative option to a racing carnival in the Adelaide Hills. Or risk an exodus, which shifts or reduces leisure/shopping dollars/casual jobs etc.

It's not good to have a dead city centre, environs over an extended break. As more accommodation is built in the city, the city needs to ensure year round events, activities to maintain higher occupancy rates. The city hosts a significant number of international/interstate students and this increases visitation by parents/relatives. Easter period is one opportunity. Many people, part time workers/students value casual jobs and Easter could be a good period to pick up extra casual work.

Shop trading hours have improved recently, at least in the city and the SANFL play matches over Easter, although the (late) Good Friday game is played at Hickinbotham/Noarlunga Oval. The redeveloped Adelaide Oval and Riverbank precinct would be a better venue.

Is there an innovative event, target demographic(s), interest group, show/convention, arts, science, sporting carnival etc that could fill the void left as the traditional Easter Oakbank loses significance as the prime drawcard/event?

Any thoughts?

The SAJC doesn't sanction Oakbank, does it?

I thought the SAJC was stopping jumps racing at Morphettville, not everywhere. I only quickly scanned the article though.
cheers,
