Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

It'll never be a great park or fully useable space until the square regains its corners, so re-aligning the roadways remains high priority to me. In saying that, the arbours are certainly the most iconic design element so I'm happy if the ostensibly limited funds are invested there next. Then they can act as a rallying point to call for the full realisation of the masterplan.

I would like to see the square help fulfil our ambitions for a more "walkable" city. Squaring off is essential in my opinion, I don't mind too much about the arbour.

While it's a big improvement, as it have said before they should have left well enough alone till they could do it properly.
By that I mean square it up with a small paved limited access road around the edge, underground the traffic straight through in both or one direction. And all this in conjunction with an underground train loop, Victoria Square station and bus/tram interchange.
Then put all the grass back on top:

Mate, the state barely has enough money to electrify it's entire urban rail network, complete the remainder of the North-South road project, or to allocate $100m in funding to complete the existing Victoria Square. Where do you think the ACC and State Government are going to find a spare $1b to fund your ideal Vic Square upgrade? And even if they had the money, try convincing 1.5 million tax-payers that this project should be prioritised over other more important projects. Patrick I don't think I am alone with the dream of an underground rail loop and Vic Square would be an obvious spot for a station.
As far as funding we are among the the wealthiest nations on earth, I read recently that we are all funding multi millionaires $20bn a year in super tax dodges, money spent on good infrastructure is never wasted. Melbourne began invested in underground rail back in the 70's Adelaide should at least look at planning for it.
I am not talking about under grounding the whole of Adelaide just a city loop, the advantages of an under ground loop would also have a huge impact on our city along the Torrens and in particular the western CBD boundary. The existing train tracks on the city's western edge could be built over and the old industrial waste land behind Bunning's Mile End could be the start of Adelaide's version of Melbourne's Fisherman Bend project.

It's not like Melbourne just 'up and did it'. There was 40 odd years of Adelaide-esque false starts before they put a shovel in the ground for the MURL. The motivation was quite different though, Flinders st was choked with the old layout. Im not convinced our rail network is so heavily used that we cant get enough trains in and out of the station lol.

An underground for Adelaide would not all have to be tunnelled, I would love to see a project to consolidate the tracks especially along the Torrens and western parklands boundary and put the tracks in some sort of pre cast culverts and cover them up, the sale of the unused land of the cities western boundary may part pay for a project like this ?

The costs of cut and cover through built up areas can be a lot more expensive than first thought when you factor in things like services (power, water, sewer, telecoms) that need to be considered, and the interruptions at street level. Hi monotonehell, not thinking of this method for the main CBD loop but rather to consolidate all the lines on the western side of the parklands and perhaps the Torrens river bank. All that waste land next to Bunning's, the the basket ball stadium. Obviously before containers, this area was a hub for loading and unloading trains. Consolidated this wasteland could create a space for Adelaide's version of Melbourne's Fisherman's bend development, only a km from the CBD and next to under used parklands. If I remember right the Libs promoted a high rise development on this land a few elections ago?

The State Government are proposing a transit-oriented development for the area around Keswick.
