Some pointless bollocks from Channel 7, if anyone can be bothered.

don't really expect great journalism from this mob, but regarding the fly through they raise a fair point.
Also, a square, which is actually more of a rectangle, halved... would then in fact be a square.. Just sayin'

This is why it needs State and possibly Federal Government support. The council can't afford to go alone with this.

Good luck getting state or federal funding for this in the next 5 years (at least).
I suspect that if anything was to happen in Stage 2, it will be driven by a major nearby redevelopment. I'm thinking of a Central Market Arcade and/or Courts precinct redevelopment, both of which could be massive building projects.
As I've said previously, ACC should sell the air rights above the Central Market Arcade to private developers to help fund the next stages of the Vic Sq upgrade. We could be waiting for decades otherwise for the state govt to come to the party.

There's more stages? How silly was I thinking that after all those wasted years (at least 25 of them) and all that public money wasted on studies, surveys, etc that this was finally going to be the end of it.
Oh well. The only times I ever go to Victoria Square are to drive past it on my way to or from the city, and that's not very often. So I don't care.

the three rivers fountain was lit up last night with various changing colours.

Yes its back, and looking great! The fountain looks so much better in the southern part of the square, and creates very attractive vistas for those travelling north up King William Street.Matt wrote:Oh, it's back?!

Does anyone else have the nagging feeling that the plane trees in the event space are misplaced? I can't help thinking that aesthetically and practically they would have been better planted into the promenade level.
Other than that, good to hear the fountain's back up and spouting.

I think the first stage has very much been designed and built as an event space, hence the relatively unobstructed promenade etc. and what looks like too much paving and not enough grass/trees/plants. I'm hard-pressed to think of as many events in Vic Square in the past 5 years as there have been in the past 5 months. While it leaves us with a fairly bland square (unless the arbours are built), it will be remedied if/when stage 2 happens.SRW wrote:Does anyone else have the nagging feeling that the plane trees in the event space are misplaced? Lots of cars driving into the curved bus only section in the middle of the square, as a pedestrian I've had a few near-misses by some blind motorists who clearly dont see the "bus-only" sign

We get people routinely driving on to the O-Bahn, so not surprised people ignore a single 'bus-only' sign. (That also applies to the bus lanes on Curry/Grenfell, and Botanic Rd.)metro wrote:Lots of cars driving into the curved bus only section in the middle of the square, as a pedestrian I've had a few near-misses by some blind motorists who clearly dont see the "bus-only" sign
