I hope they eventually get rid of the Dyson Airblades in the toilets as well.

It was an aside comment. The Airblade is terrible.

With the possible tram extension, they may have to make custom airport trams for city and back that are actually capable of storing luggage inside. The current trams do not have that capacity.

Love the business precinct concept.
Have done a lot of business at Brindabella Park in Canberra over the years and wondered why they didn't have a similar concept in Adelaide.

Now all they have to do is fix up the international arrival area of ADL

Proposal released for 30-year expansion of Adelaide airport to triple terminal size

A new 30-year blueprint for a $2 billion expansion of Adelaide Airport including hotels and multi-storey office buildings and car parks has been released.

It comes just months after a 20-year draft plan was proposed, which involved spending $1 billion over five years.

Adelaide Airport Limited managing director Mark Young said the expansion would more than triple terminal capacity and was critical in meeting increasing passenger numbers.

"History has shown that airports do grow and this is a plan to continue that," Mr Young said.

"But more importantly, it's a plan and it's a vision so that the growth can be accommodated in a planned and orderly way."

The proposal would significantly increase the number of aerobridges from 14 to 52 by 2044 and accommodate for new generation aircraft.

It would result in more noise for homes affected by the flight path but did not include any plans to change the airport's existing 11:00pm to 6:00am curfew for larger planes.

"We're currently Australia's fastest growing capital city airport for international services," Mr Young said.

"That growth, that investment, that prosperity, is what we're planning for."

Mr Young hoped the company could entice other investors to help it fund the expansion, which he believed would provide key investment and economic activity for the state.

"Some of the industries already established or looking to grow at Adelaide Airport include mining and resources, freight and logistics, technology, office and warehousing, health care, government enterprises and emergency services," he said.

Mr Young said 17,000 jobs were already connected to the precinct but that would increase by another 20,000 if the proposal went ahead.

The airport was privatised in 1998.

We absolutely should've moved it somewhere else, preferably the salt pans near Port Adelaide, but there's nowhere to move it where one half of the city wouldn't complain about the new location.

One of the things I like about Adelaide is that the airport IS close to me CBD, and not on the outskirts.

I always thought out that way was a good location too, but it should have been moved even further out along the coast west of Two Wells, and linked with the Adelaide proper and the CBD via a freeway(with speed limit of 100) and a train line. But even if it was a possibility, Adelaide/SA just doesn't have the balls to spend those sorts of big bucks on anything, let alone relocating the airport.
