Re: Beer Garden
Let's just remember that Bank SA was long ago purchased by St George Bank, which in turn was purchased by Westpac. They couldn't give two figs about South Australia. That's why we don't have the Christmas and Easter lighting on the State Bank building anymore.

Indeed! That's why cricket is a very dangerous sport!serca wrote:Cant believe Phillip Hughes has passed. Incredibly sad. RIP legend
One of our 4000 class trains, trams or buses should don a livery for the Phillip Hughes foundation!

Yeah at least one wouldn't be a bad thing hey!
I wouldn't say it's dangerous - 5 recorded feather in a sport with a long history. What happened was quiet rare and unfortunate.

Re: Beer Garden
This old battle has popped up again. Now that the site has been cleaned up, noises are being made to install new permanent buildings and reintroduce horse racing to Victoria Park.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-12-06/p ... de/5948940Push to bring horse racing back to Victoria Park in Adelaide's east parklands
There is a renewed push for horse racing to return to Adelaide, with the State Government assessing the feasibility of bringing the sport back to Victoria Park in the city's parklands. Racing facilities at the park were demolished in 2009, but Sport Minister Leon Bignell said the Government was open to exploring the proposal put forward by a group of Adelaide business people with the backing of the South Australian Jockey Club and Thoroughbred Racing SA...

Re: Beer Garden
The demise of Vic PArk as a racing venue should never have been allowed. With the closure of Cheltenham, I believe Morphettville should be downgraded to a training facility only, with Vic Park used for most race meets. Imagine summer twilight racing, Friday evenings in the city...would allow the SAJC to promote corporate packages for the after work crowd in the city. Also, generally a cooler time of day for the horses and punters alike.
Parts of Morphettville could also be sold off adjacent the tram line for housing.

You're shitting me right?
Any money you want this is being influenced by the success of AFL moving to Adelaide Oval.
They've spent how many millions fixing up the northern half of Vic Park, and then refixing it because one contractor stuffed up the leveling. Now they want to turn it back into a horse racing course.
Why not leave it as it is, and build a race course on the southern half of Vic park that's nothing more then a dust bowl?
The northern section already has it's uses for motorsport, the stuck up snobs in the area who think public land is for their exclusive private use that shouldn't be interrupted, and other events.

Head office in Sydney may not give a damn about SA, but the local management team should know better.Maximus wrote:Let's just remember that Bank SA was long ago purchased by St George Bank, which in turn was purchased by Westpac. It's as ridiculous as the councils tree in Vic square saying happy christmas, instead of merry christmas. Pretty soon it'll just say happy holidays. You know, so we don't offend certain groups whose belief it is that their new adopted country should change to suit them, whom the left wing bastards in this country all pander too, and unfortunately suck in everyday ordinary Australian's into their politically correct nonsense.

Oh yes, it's all about being politically correct. Despite us having the largest Christmas pageant of its kind. *rolleyes*rev wrote:Head office in Sydney may not give a damn about SA, but the local management team should know better.Maximus wrote:Let's just remember that Bank SA was long ago purchased by St George Bank, which in turn was purchased by Westpac. Here's a news flash. There's no war on Christmas from the "left". A message saying happy instead of merry is not the result of some big agenda, and there are no examples of immigrants protesting such festivals and demanding people pander to their beliefs - it's a made up red herring.

Re: Beer Garden
Rev, you're jumping at shadows. "Happy Christmas" is more common in England and Ireland. "Merry Christmas" was more common in Old English, but was revived by Charles Dickens (A Christmas Carol). "Happy Christmas" was popularised during the Victorian Era, due to the desire of tea-totalers to remove what they perceived as the less sober "merry" from Christmas.rev wrote:It's as ridiculous as the councils tree in Vic square saying happy christmas, instead of merry christmas. So "Happy CHristmas" was a war on drunkenness, not a war on Christmas. And most certainly is not a war on anything now.
