Why?
Why?
Because it is a form of deceit, it is dishonest?

If they aren't serious about their proposals, why should they be considered at all let alone approved?
If not fine them, impose a bond system.

Do you think these proposals for 100m this 100m that, that don't get off the ground because the developer never had the intention to actually go ahead with it but only wanted to maximize the value of the existing property to make a profit, have a negative or positive effect on Adelaide, on the market, on the populaces psyche, on the image of Adelaide?

The handful of 100m+ proposals we've had over recent times, which never got off the ground, do you think they reinforce the stereotype that nothing happens/changes in Adelaide?
Do you think these failed developments instil confidence and pride in Adelaide?

Wouldn't the increased cost of the property/land limit the potential for another proposal to get off the ground on that site?

We seem to have missed this one.

It appears this one is dead.
Mattioli's $65m price tag for Rendezvous Grand

The Australian |
July 16, 2013 12:00AM

APARTMENT developers may be flocking to Adelaide but Melbourne's Mattioli Group is pulling out, listing for sale two of its prime assets -- the five-star Rendezvous Grand Hotel and a CBD development site -- for a combined price tag of more than $70 million.

The 202-suite Rendezvous Grand, which is operated by Singapore's The Straits Trading Company, is on the market through CBRE Hotels' Wayne Bunz, and will be offered with a lease to The Straits Trading Company, or via vacant possession.

"Several major hotel operators are not presently represented in the Adelaide five-star hotel market," Mr Bunz said.

"On that basis, we expect significant competition between owner-operators keen to gain a foothold in the Adelaide market and a range of local and overseas buyers, including a number of increasingly active Chinese investors."

Up to $65m is expected for the hotel, which returned its owner $4.849m last year and is forecast to return $4.983m this year.

The Mattioli family is also selling a development site fronting 68 Currie Street in Adelaide's heart as it refocuses on its core Melbourne activities.

On that basis, we'll update this one to 'cancelled'.

I thought it already was cancelled... still a shame though.

I'm sure though another developer will quickly snap up this site. Over 100 metres is needed.

A shame, but it was predictable. The site is prime location though, so I'm sure it'll get snapped up quickly as well.

Far too tall and narrow. If it was at least four times that width it would get away with the height.

It might get snapped up quickly but lets hope we don't end up with something insignificant.

Sorry to bump an old thread but Axiom Properties now own this site and are planning a mixed use Hotel/Office building. Last I checked it was going to be about 30,000m2

Preferred the old design.

Is this a serious proposal, or just another vision?

Its still early days so the design may change but it will be a serious proposal. I think the above render is not great quality and think it is better than it looks in the above picture.

Surely that existing building is not heritage listed? Why would they keep that façade?
