Waymouth Place was closed to traffic yesterday and hoarding was being erected. I can only presume this is for the upcoming demolition of the building currently on site.

A lane on King William Street was blocked to traffic and hoarding was being erected for the upcoming demolition of the building currently on site. Also it appears that internal demolition is well under way.

Does "revised" usually mean a reduction, or is there a good chance the height could increase? I was looking forward to seeing this really stick out from the crowd.

In this instance it was increased by about 1 metre.

Concrete jungle keeps getting bigger

03 Dec 2014

Adelaide’s fast-growing Waymouth Street precinct is a sign of positive change within a climate of relatively low business and consumer confidence. Its growing number of bars and tall buildings are creating a new face for the city. It will soon boast Adelaide’s sixth-tallest building.

Adam Internet founder Greg Hicks is behind the project, bankrolling construction costs without a single floor being sold. It’s a speculative play that he bases on optimism and a belief in the state.

“Companies like Synergy Construct and Dash architects have undertaken some of the most important South australian projects in recent years. this project will be the next stage in their evolution and in the evolution of adelaide, and that is exactly where I want to invest,” he said.

Builder Synergy Construct won the project after submitting a compliant bid – and then throwing in another bid that demonstrated the way they thought it should be built.

“We suggested a steel frame rather than a concrete frame to make it quicker, cheaper and easier to work with, and then suggested situating the crane in the lift well – for one of the city’s busiest streets, it means less disruption, and to the city, it means a new city face to admire,” operations director Craig Weaver said.

“We are proud South Australians and we want to be proud of what we achieve. That doesn’t mean we have to follow the same rules every time. in fact, we should be embracing every innovation we can to make sure this next wave of development represents a city pushing into a confident future.”

Business director Michael Gramazio said the lack of confidence in the state had held back significant investment – and with it, more jobs.

“Without Greg’s investment, almost 200 jobs would have been waiting for floors to be sold before banks could step in to finance the project. In an economy lacking in confidence, that could have taken many more months,” he said.

Synergy Construct representatives recently returned from a procurement trip to China for the glass façade on adelaide’s tallest residential tower, Vue on King William.

Last month it completed its concrete footing, with 420 truckloads of concrete making it Adelaide’s largest single concrete pour for a high-rise building.

Not yet mate, still plenty of ruble in the basement area and no sign of a crane base.

I suspect the closure may be to upgrade building infrastructure cables, pipes etc.

First group match for the Cricket World Cup at the oval is on Sunday.
India v Pakistan.

Actually scratch that it's not because of the cricket It's because the fringe parade is on Friday.
