Absolutely insane crowd numbers for a domestic cricket match! Pity they didn't have much to cheer about on the night ... It was rather embarrassing for the Strikers
Hey! That's my pic! Did you just find it on social media somewhere? I don't care that it's being reused but credit wouldn't go astray.

With regular admission they sell 1:1 tickets to seats. (And the equivalent capacity for the hill.)
With the members' area, they have the option to over book because of members' tendency to no-show. They have an open ticket to turn up whenever. Guest passes are sold to cash in on this possibly unused capacity.
It's part statistics and part gambling. Sometimes you can get the perfect storm and the above happens.
Yeah I think the Adelaide Oval has something like 3:1 members to seat ratio whereas a place like the MCG has something worse like 5:1 or 7:1. But that's only if every member turns up. It's why you see members lining up early to get seats for the cricket or football members lining up prior to gates open if they haven't paid the extra money for a reserved seat.

Absolutely spectacular. The noise was disproportionate to the crowd as well. Brisbane could only raise 16000 - 19000 at these matches - odd that !!! (and from a pop of over 2m.).Go Adelaide!. Great potential for riverbank developments.

Just read in the local (Murdoch) owned rag that the state government will be sitting down with the Dallas Cowboys execs this week to discuss bringing the Cowboys down next year for a match against one of the other NFL teams. They're hoping it'll be a massive tourism coup which if successful will see Adelaide televised to millions in the US. Apparently the Queensland government have already tried to lure NFL teams to Brisbane with no success but the NFL might be scoping perhaps Sydney for a game down-under each year. Would be a great score for Adelaide if we could sign the Cowboys up for a few games over the next few years. Open tourism up with the US.

Well the Gabba is a pretty ordinary venue, let's be honest about things.

Surely this causes OH&S law breeches?
I'm no expert on these things but surely if an evacuation was needed to take place trying to get more people out than the stadium was designed for would cause problems?

They still wont let more than capacity enter at the gate. Once it's full, it's full no matter what kind of ticket you hold.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

So they had room for 867 more people (53,500 capacity). Interested to know what the max. capacity is for a concert (ie people on the oval etc).

There are more SACA members than there are seats for SACA members. Last Sat was one of the rare occasions where a huge % of SACA members rocked up, about 15% had no where to sit other than to stand or sit in stair wells. Test matches are different because they know that 20% of SACA members do not see a ball being bowled and spend their day at the back drinking Pims at the village green. This is something new and quite unexpected in state cricket, so I think it caught the SACA by surprise because they really did have way more than capacity

just following on from this, I bet you anything that if we ever host another big bash final, the SACA would be forced to implement some kind of pre book/reservation to be able to attend, because in the year 2015 in a first world country, over filling a grand stand by 15-20% would land the SACA in big trouble in terms of public liability. If there was some kind of emergency, there is plenty of room behind the stand (village green/training ovals) for people to spill out on, but still, ever since Hillsborough, over filling a stand would be a big no no.
The reason why there are way more members than seats, is because its very rare for the members area to be full at once. The only times it comes close is during the Ashes (even then it only gets full once the shade kicks in). Even when the one dayers were big in the 90s, the members would only be full at dusk and night. Also cricket being such a long day, there is also a % that would stay for maybe one innings and not the other. At other times, there are thousands that stay at the back at the village green.
Big bash is a different story, its like a football game where everyone arrives at once, stays for 3 hours and leaves at once, (and less people staying out the back drinking Pims) so the SACA have probably never experienced what happened on Sat night ever before

JK, every member had the opportunity to purchase 2x guest passes for the Big Bash semi final.
I have no idea how SACA can make the call to allow guest passes if the ratio of members to guests really is 3/1 and NYE had >40k people attend..
I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to stand up all game.

So is the members stand open for SACA members too? Cause other than the middle tier of the East, it seems the whole stadium is open.
If allocation is exhausted then it could be a bloody big crowd.
