[COM] Colonial Mutual Building > Mayfair Hotel
On Tuesday the ACC recieved an application to turn the old The Colonial Mutual Building (Heritage) into a hotel. The application includes ground floor up market retail and a basement food court.
Great to see something finally happening to this building as it's been vacent for so long.

Yeah this one was mentioned in the City Messenger a few weeks ago as being possible. Good to see they have put in an application. Good to get rid of this office space from the market, the demand isn't there for old, small floorplate offices. This will reduce the CBD office vacany rate further once it is taken off the market if it hasn't already. Great location for a hotel. Tramstop outside helps too. This is probably my favourite Adelaide Hertiage listed building by the way. It looks awesome from Rundle Mall and King William Street.

^^ Yes very gothic. There are quite a few applications for hotels in the city at the moment. Is there going to be an oversupply of hotel rooms in the not too distant future?

Beautiful building, one of my favourites. Hope they do a good job with the refit.

This is one of the very few historically beautiful buildings fully preserved in Adelaide. I love it, and I think a hotel fit-out in the interior would certainly be a major drawcard for tourists.

Any idea who is the developer? It would be good if someone also converted the "candy-stripe" one opposite which seems like vacant offices above the ground floor.

With the right refit this building will make a superlative boutique hotel. I think there's a similar (carbon copy) building in Brisbane. Can anyone from there tell us whether that is correct?
Cheers

HO Really said he thought there was a carbon copy of this building in Brisbane. Have'nt seen it for a while but it cought my attention when last in Bris. CBD. It is all charcoal colour and even more 'gothic. It is new, taller and looks like it is out of 'Batman'. Ours in Adelaide is the genuine article - what else would you expect in sensational Adelaide!!
Like momentkiller and Howie have indicated, I join with them in thinking that this is one of my favourite buildings in Adelaide and would make a great site for a hotel.
Pistol 78 - thanks for answering a question I had cconcerning hotels in Adelaide. On the face of it with me it also begs the question concerning an oversupply of hotels - but then. I have also wondered why there have been so few - perhaps the building boom and the causes thereof contains an answer.

What's the bet when Bank SA move from there building on King William that will be turned into a hotel too. (There is no plans of this happening but like most banks will most likely want better office accomodation down the track.

There's a CML building in all the mainland state capitals, I believe. They're all the same, but different height.
[COM] Re: 41-55 K W ST - Another Hotel
There used to be, until Perth demolished it's one a few decades ago. Brisbane's version is an apartment building now I believe.AtD wrote:There's a CML building in all the mainland state capitals, I believe. They're all the same, but different height.

That is generally the case. The ones in Sydney and Melbourne are different. The one in Newcastle although similar to the one here is smaller and is painted white. One of my favourites is the one in Hobart. It is a miniature version of our CML Building (6 levels). The ones in Brisbane and Adelaide look very similar as was the one in perth which was sadly demolished.AtD wrote:There's a CML building in all the mainland state capitals, I believe. I too love this building and think it will make a fantastic hotel.
Imagine this building as a hotel with exclusive retail boutiques at its base...would look great!
