From anther story related to Palumbo posted in the Advertiser today:
The jewel in the crown is a five-star hotel planned next to the Adelaide TAFE campus on Currie St.

Mr Palumbo confirmed the company was in final talks to secure an operator for the 32-storey mixed use tower which would include 252 rooms and 80 apartments, and become the city’s second tallest building.

“We felt like Adelaide needed a five-star so that was what we targeted,” he said.

“I don’t think there are any comparable five-star hotels in Adelaide at the moment - we don’t have the calibre here.”

Unless it's and existing chain in Adelaide, I'd say they're either talking to Hyatt, Four Seasons, Marriott or Rydges. Hyatt have already been here and left, so I don't see them making a return anytime soon.

Rydges aren't 5 star :/ I'd like to see something international like Sharaton, Sofitel, Marriott

There is already Rydges here in Adelaide.

Can not wait for this development. This will not only boast the skyline but add some long overdue density and height to Currie Street.

2015-16 is shaping up to be a busy construction period :)

If I were one of those 5 star chains, and I were eyeing an opportunity in Adelaide, I'd want to be talking to Walker Corp about getting into a hotel on the Festival Plaza ... a far superior location for a 5 star hotel than Currie St.

Having said that, the Currie St site would be a good spot for a 4 star hotel in the growing western part of the CBD, as a counterpoint to the Ibis which is in the eastern CBD.

2017 start?

I'll believe it when I see it. A lot can happen in 2 years.

There's 8 floors of apartments so I guess they would want to sell most of them before starting
construction. If construction starts in early 2017 then that's just over 18 months away which is not
that long for a big project.

very exciting.
Will this extend all the way to the Duke of York Hotel?
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

It won't. Just the island block between Currie, Rosina, Solomon and Burnett? streets. Duke of York's on the corner of Kingston Street isn't it?

I hope another 25-30m is added onto this building to make a new tallest out of it, even if it's just a spire of some kind.

Even at 110m it's still a good height, if it goes ahead it'll be the first building over 100m to be built here in a long time, will also bring a bit of height to the mostly flat western side of the CBD.

Nine News report on the hotel:

I suspect the reason why construction will start in 2 years, is that the building currently on site is still occupied. The building is occupied by a company called Australian Fashion Labels (AFL). AFL are planning to move into their new headquarters at 233-236 North Terrace. However before they move, the premises at 233-236 North Terrace will have to be redeveloped. http://www.dac.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/ ... Labels.pdf. As you can see, the redevelopment plans are still on the DAC website, and thus is still some time off.
