And just to put it out there in case someone asks what should the alternative be;
- The original plan, minus the bus tunnel - with an interim solution of painting the left and right hand lanes of Hackney Road red into dedicated bus only lane, with the view to a long term plan tof converting the O-Bahn into a heavy rail corridor with an underground link from the Park Terrace exit to the Adelaide Railway Station, and new underground station servicing the Adelaide University / New High School and refurbished RAH precinct.

Apologies to any pensioners on the forum, this isn't a dig at you. Unless you belong to APPA or similar groups.
But what in the actual ****, a minority group, a very vocal minority group who've been given all the media attention they crave, have just dictated an outcome.
A MINORITY GROUP. Not just any minority group, but a minority group of pensioners who'll be dead within a decade anyway so wont know the long term effects of their selfish god damn ****** stupidity.
And nobody listens when I say we need a pro-development group/organization to oppose these groups.
The last couple weeks all media coverage regarding this has been about them and their opinions. There was no opposing views presented in the media. The majority of the news segments on this were taken up by the pensioner group of selfish idiots blabbering on about their idiotic selfish views, and very little time was given to the government/minister/or anyone else who might present a different view or opinion on the project.
Part of the problem we have in this state when it comes to the city and state progressing forwards and moving at a reasonable pace that you'd expect for a capital city of over a million people, is the god damn media. In particular the Advertiser. They set the tone when it comes to news given that they get things out in print form before the sun is even looking like it's going to rise over the hills. So the networks on tv have to dance to the tune set by News Corp. Well they don't have to, but they choose to because people have already read things in the paper and are expecting to go home at turn the telly on at 6pm to get the latest updates on what they read in the paper.
We really need a Fairfax(or any bloody media organization besides news corp) to setup another daily paper for South Australia.
Not to present a pro-development view point, but to present an as balanced as possible point of view on issues within the state and city. Because lord knows that News Corp fail miserably at doing just that, from sports to state issues of various kinds. They have the monopoly and they abuse it for all it's worth.
The campaign by the selfish pensioners group wouldn't have even gained any traction if it wasn't for the Advertiser. If it wasn't for the Advertiser, they'd just be a bunch of silly old deranged pensioners standing on the side of the road waving signs around about some trees and grass.
And perhaps the saddest part of this is that the media is painting this as the government bowing to "public" pressure, as if the rest of us had anything to do with this group of selfish half dead selfish self centered lunatics.
The government didn't bow to the public. The government bowed to the false hysteria created by the media, whom took hold of the campaign by the half dead pensioners complaining because it was an opportunity for Rupert Murdochs media mafia to fire a few shots at a Labor government and potentially do damage.
When is this state going to stop letting Rupert Murdochs media mafia from dictating outcomes?

The problem being rev that because young and middle aged people now hardly ever read conventional newspapers, it means that papers like the Advertiser have to cater for older readers and pressure groups, or lose them too.
What surprises me is why politicians take any notice of newspaper opinions at all, given that their circulations are really in terminal decline. Those newspapers, of course claim that their electronic versions make up for the loss of physical paper readership, but they cook the figures by claiming that page hits are the same as individual purchases of papers. (And even that is inflated by counting all the free newspapers at airports, cafes etc, which these days are mostly unread).
So, this outcome is a combination of newspapers desperately chasing a rapidly dying demographic, and politicians not realising how little influence newspapers really have.

I really like that they are getting rid of 5 slip lanes at intersections on the east end. This we will make it a lot easier for people and people riding bikes. But they are adding one slip lane at North Tce and Hackney Road intersection

Did anyone save a copy of the original proposal? I think it would be interesting to see them side by side to see what has been lost and what has been changed to accomodate the cardigan wearing anti change brigade.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

So I know alot people who were agaisnt it, none who read the advertiser. they were made aware by the groups exceptionally good and misleading social media campaign.
