It all comes down to $$$.
CC8 would have been cheaper to rent for the ATO since its not as extravagant as this proposal.

it's a number of things. Yes the rent was no doubt high, but today companies want larger floor plates. Basically CC8 has the same floor space but in 11 less levels.Benski81 wrote:That's what I want to know too because I don't understand how they couldn't secure a tennant and yet CC8 quite quickly secured the ATO as a tennant for 3,000 (I think it was) employees? It's not like they were beaten to it by the CC8 developers, this proposal was approved a while ago now. Is it that even that kind of a pre-commitment still isn't enough for this development and the cost of the building requires an even larger tennant?spiller wrote:is that merely a technicality though or is there actually a legit chance that this development will come to life again?Ben wrote:Just to confirm this development isn't dead. There was an extension of time granted earlier this year which doesn't expire till February 2011.

Understood. So that probably answers the previous question then as to whether or not it's likely this project will be revived. Unlikely in its current format because it isn't designed to meet market demand and is cost prohibitive.

Bit random but I've noticed this building is in an image of the skyline used on the ABC News SA opening titles. Unfortunately I don't have a YouTube link - you'll have to watch closely.

12 month extension of time was granted in October.

According to the advertiser a further extension of time has been rejected by ACC. Along with Yorke campus and the old planet site.

Both those developments were hardly exciting. The planet site deserves something sexy and tall.Ben wrote:Along with Yorke campus and the old planet site.

Wait so is this truly dead or what? If further time delays have been rejected, that means that this over for good now?!?!

Not even a chance. Wrong area of the city for apartments, there is not demand for office buildings and I don't think this city can handle one more hotel proposal of that scale.Ben wrote:This site is for sale in todays SA Business Journal.

Perfect area for apartments. Close to shopping and entertainment precincts.

And amongst the business strip of Adelaide's CBD, not so perfect area for apartments. Close proximity doesn't equal good location, otherwise what's VUE's advantage?[Shuz] wrote:Perfect area for apartments. Close to shopping and entertainment precincts.

Views that will likely not be interrupted for a number of years yet, and close proximity to free trams.

Why? What's wrong with mixed use? I live in the CBD. Many of my friends do as well.Patrick_27 wrote:And amongst the business strip of Adelaide's CBD, not so perfect area for apartments.
