I would assume the fence is temporary whilst construction is on hold. Surprised nobody fell in the hole.

Hopefully construction commences again in the next few weeks. I guess it depends how long the negotiations take with the new builder.

You did see the giant Watpac sign, I assume. As in the new builder...

Workers are on site today too.
Walking on over....

Seems like they've put a solid fence around the site to disguise the fact that nothing is
happening on site.

Probably more to do with the 10m deep hole on the other side that only had a temporary fence to stop you falling into it.

Looks shorter and more boring than i had imagined.

Woods bagot nailed Vue, yet New Mayfield and Bohem lack any form of Architectural Sophistication.

It's all about how much they can do with their set budget, so it's the developers' fault, not the architects'. Fact is that the apartments need to be at an acceptable price level for the end buyer, not all apartments can be luxury apartments, especially when the house prices that they have to be so competitive against are not as high as the eastern states. To be honest though, in my opinion the design is quite nice actually.

Quality design is about being creative, innovative and clever, and is even more imperative when developers are selling to the middle/lower sections of the market, where investment is tight. Agree that the design here is nice, but nice implies mediocrity.

Adelaide was founded and designed by courageous, smart people with a passion for creating a built environment which provided a unique quality of life for people of all cultures, means, and aspirations. Sadly today that tradition manifests itself only sporadically, and that's particularly sad right now, when there's a big spike in building activity in the city, and a massive opportunity to build and enhance an environment that inspires, challenges and makes us feel good about ourselves.

It seems that many architects may be technically proficient, but lack the key skills to market exquisite design to developers and planners, regardless of budget. To deliver only mediocrity is a cop out, and diminishes us all.

Personally I like it, it's a nice simple and modern design.

It will help create a denser southern skyline.

Architects are driven by what the customer wants, which is optimum $m2 to eek out every single possible return.

Architects are a fee driven industry so when a developer comes to them with a challenge and a budget, well you can only guess what is the first to be removed, that is anything that doesn't drive perceived value to rent return.

Edit, also you will find that outside a few hotels, which appear to be a bit more impressive, most developments in this city are build around government Tenancies - developers know how much they will pay and what the minimum requirements are to get that lease signed up, so that is what the building is budgeted to.

We just don't have the business economy of scale to have companies willing to pay a big $m2 for office space becuase it looks snazzy from the outside.

On a side note - has any work progressed on site? Or is it still more or less cleanup from Tagara?
