The silly thing is, that's pretty much what they've done. Most of the "ripped up" sections, have been that way since the pavers went down (and a small bit when the poles went in). The give a way is looking at the bitumen, very little of it is recently poured (I think I only saw about 7-8sqm of brand new bitumen total).
Correct. When the paving was first 'completed' there were several large bitumen patches. Which turned out to be reserves for the fountain, and the poles. That looks suspiciously like forward planning to me. The only exception was a few pavers that were cut near the pigs and a few at the East end.

I wasn't focusing on the criticism from the murdoch media nor on how much precisely of bitumen
is getting ripped up. From that point of view its been a botch up as one council member readily
concedes.

OH. MY. GOD.

Look what happened in Victoria Square! They ripped up pavers to install a sign! WHY DID THEY NOT THINK THIS THROUGH WHEN THEY INSTALLED THESE PAVERS!

Oh hang on... wait a minute... Pavers...? Victoria Square...?

AHH! IT'S THOSE EVIL CHINESE PAVERS! THE ONES THAT ONE OR TWO PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE SLIPPED ON! ROYAL COMMISSION PLZ!

But in all seriousness, these new signs look great and very glad to see these installed all over the city. They look modern and professional. Well done ACC :applause:

Haha, well said.

Agree with you about the signs, they remind me of something I'd see in Melbourne when I was living there not long ago. Not that Melbourne are the go-to for this kind of stuff, but if they're good enough for them, they're sure as hell good enough for Adelaide. :D

If anything, they're heavily inspired by the wayfinding Pentagram did for WalkNYC - right down to the colour scheme, walking distance circles, and line illustrations of landmarks. (Saying that, if you're going to crib a pedestrian citywide wayfinding system, it's a pretty good one to crib. I only wish they did a better job of drawing the map. Some of the areas — mostly around the parklands — are a bit wonky)

I absolutely love the new signs, very sleek. Better than the former grey signs.

These signs are reminiscent of the '2001 A Space Odyssey' obelisks...Image

New signs look great, what I'd expect to see in an international city :applause:

Good job - absolutely hated the previous signs with the busy list of tacked on places of interest.

A perforated steel spire was added to the tops of the Pultney Street mast either last week or the week before (saw it laying on the ground prior to installation). I haven't seen if the KWS one was also installed, but I gather that this is the glowing tip lighting hallmark as pictured below:

yep, installed at both ends.

On a different matter, the council is again taking aim at food trucks in the city and considering banning them from the mall. Even though pop up food outlets were part of the redevelopment plan as a replacement for the permanent kiosks. It's like deja vu with the claim that the redesigned Victoria Sq event space is an "inappropriate" place to hold events. :wallbash:

I think it's becoming very obvious now that there is a significant faction with the current council that is actively trying to dismantle or wind back everything achieved under the previous council as matter of principle.

It's Mayor Haese. Ever wondered how the guy could afford to paint the city with campaign sings during the city council election? Or how he so easily took the position from Yarwood? My guess, he has business interests with a few people who operate within the city and the fall of food trucks is directly linked to that.

I spoke with a business who own one of the food trucks that operated in Victoria Square and they said that Haese, whilst polite, talks more about himself and what he wants rather than addressing the growing concerns of those who own food trucks.

I'm particularly annoyed that Polites has been so vocal about this, claiming that food-trucks are destroying the return for tenants of his property. There are many reasons why his tenants may be suffering, one of the reasons may even be that he brands his buildings so harshly that passes by don't recognise the business inside... Who knows, but food vans are such a small element in this city's food offerings.

Ive heard from a few people that the now Polites head chief is an utter prick, and one of the first things to check before finding a shop location for a business is to check if it's run by Polites or not, if it is, stay well clear. The shops are completely neglected buildings and they refuse to spend any money on them, but continuously increase rents

IIRC food trucks take something like 0.1% of the gross of business, run on slender profit margins and are somehow the cause of all financial problems.
