I have stayed in the Crown Plaza twenty times or more, It is not a 5 start hotel. Maybe 4.5 but definitely not 5. Like it or not we're going to skew further towards a service-based economy and having attractive destinations in the city (read: not completely hitching our wagon to regional attractions) like hotels, sporting venues and convention centres are important to support that. Plus you'd hope a decent chunk of the money being spent to build these things enters circulation.
Change is gradual, challenging and can be painful for many, but spending too much time lamenting the loss of old-world industries is akin to only constructing 18 floor buildings because "thats what we've always done".

These councilors get elected because of who votes. Council voting isn't compulsory. Whose the most vocal? The nimby groups. They are a minority but manage to get their councilors in almost always.
We have S-A which gathers most of us and most if not all info about most and major devs. What is lacking is a group or an organized effort to actively counter the nimby movement which gets plenty of actual media attention for their cause. These people are given air time and quoted in the papers. They are given the opportunity to present their views and opinions to the wider community. Often if not always without a counter provided. Thus theirs is the only view put forward.
And as I showed with the Obahn extension the views these people put forward aren't necessarily correct or based on fact or reality.

In what is a positive step for this development, re-development works for Australian Fashion Labels new North Terrace headquarters are well under way.

Would love to see another 4-5 storeys added to the apartment levels in this building, making it about 125m tall. Doesn't have to be as tall as Westpac House, but another tower close to it in height would make a significant impact on the skyline.
