[COM] Festival Plaza Tower 1 | 115m | 27 Levels | Office
[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million
First point: you're all looking at massing renders. 90% of the detail is missing, it's purely for building envelopes and scale. Look at them with the correct perspective.
Secondly: If Skycity can't commit, it's time for the Government to enact some of their contractual clauses and seek a new Casino partner. Enough it enough.

I also think this plan is underwhelming. I mean how is landscaping, new pavers and a boulevard of trees going to rate on a tourists to do list. Serious government THINK BIG. The fact the government has sold their soul to the walker corp to for the office tower which way too big for the area is a joke. What a wasted opportunity. Which once developed will be lost forever.

I haven't had time to check properly, but does this plan completely ignore the work already planned and approved for the Festival Centre? I'm sure those stairs between the two buildings down to Elder Park weren't part of it.

D'oh I should have figured that out myself, but it means my comments on the use of space to promote vibrancy pre Adelaide Oval sporting events is still as valid as before.Pikey wrote:First point: you're all looking at massing renders. 90% of the detail is missing, it's purely for building envelopes and scale. Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

From the article:
I actually don't mind this concept:Deputy Premier John Rau said he was “very excited” to have the plans progress to this stage, which he described as being similar to floorplans for a house.
“We know how big the rooms are going to be, where the plumbing needs to go. All we need to work out now is that finer detail like the colour of the paint and choose which tiles.”
- The office building will draw people during weekdays and modernise the northern skyline (needs to be a high quality design) - could be too tall?
- Parliament House will make a beautiful backdrop for the new rooftop bars etc
- Festival Centre entrance facing the plaza
- Single-level connection from KWS to the footbridge
- Station Road upgrade
- Replacement of the Amphitheatre
One thing I am sick off is SkyCity, it's time the Government ditch them for another casino operator.

One thing I don't like are these staged plans. The key to the riverbank precinct being a success is having one major masterplan.

Yep, ignores the Festival Centre's plans. Well done riverbank authority, let's not collaborate on anything.crawf wrote:One thing I don't like are these staged plans. The key to the riverbank precinct being a success is having one major masterplan.

This has got to be like the umpteenth render / plan for the Festival Plaza site.

Whatever they do there please don't build that monstrosity next to Parliament house .. views of the Railway Station and Parliament house should not be obstructed, they are beautiful pieces of architectural and having that 15 (or whatever) storey building there would look silly and out of place .. I am all for taller structures, but put that down Pire, Grenfell/Currie etc. just not here and butting up against Parliament house.

I actually don't mind an office tower of some sort being built there, I think it would help give the area a bit of a "city" feel.

I agree an office tower would look awesome there, its a great spot to complement the northern entry to the city along with its surrounds.

A tower there will assist in defining the physical boundaries of the new public space, as well as create a new focal point. There could also be new opportunities for ground floor activation, such as retail or other commercial property.
Our state, our city, our future.

I would rather they put this to bed for the next say 5 - 10 years than rush into it and we end up with a half assed thoroughfare
[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million
I reckon 15 - 20 years. That way we can make sure that all the NIMBY's are either gone or too old to put up a fight, and we can do a complete riverside rebuildserca wrote:I would rather they put this to bed for the next say 5 - 10 years than rush into it and we end up with a half assed thoroughfare
