Call me a cynic. I'll believe it when I see a picture of the installation happening:) fingers crossed this unnecessarily long odyssey is hopefully almost complete:)
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Was just (9:30pm 23/8/2015) walking down Rundle Mall, the part between KWS and Charles Street is completely blocked to pedestrians and work is going ahead. Also there's workers in the pole pits at the Pulteney Street end. So something is going on.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Was there a last minute miracle that means the lights would no longer require the support of those eyesores?

I get this warm glow in my belly when I imagine the heads of various Advertiser columnists exploding if this were true:) :hilarious:

Just walked through the mall and looks as bad as my worst fears. It may look ok at night time but there is no hiding all those wires during the day.

I find overhead cables feel like a roof. It completely destroys a nice open feeling free sky gives you. Rundle Malls beauty is its open air, putting a roof feeling in has got to be bad.

I get a cramped feeling as you drive down north east rd(mostly between ABC and Holden Hill police station.) with all the over head cables. If they were removed the just the street crossing cables that road would look so much better.
Rundle Mall will surely give me the same cramped feeling after these lights are installed.

I think they will look a lot better after they are tightened and put vertical. The picture is one hanging lose, from the side.

It would appear that they're working down to the wire here...

Is Rundle Mall the next tram extension?
