^^
What's your point metro?. This is far from the same level as Sydney's Bridge Climb (I did this 2 weeks ago - amazing) and I don't believe they are trying to copy it either. Adelaide Oval is a brilliant location for something like this; the views over the oval, St Peters, Riverbank and the city skyline will be fantastic.
Projects like this will help Adelaide further transform into a tourist destination, creating well needed jobs and boasting the state economy.

My point was the same arched shape they used is very similar to the arched shape of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, that's all. I do actually support the idea for the same reasons you listed crawf, Adelaide has needed something like this in the city for a long time.

Yep thumbs-up.
This is the sort of thing our friend pushbutton regularly called for in Adelaide.
Hope this gets implemented pronto and spawns other activity-based tourism ideas. A few more rooftop bars and look-outs please, with a twist.
Must also say the AO redevelopment is the gift that keeps on giving...

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

What an excellent idea - hope it goes ahead - the oval seems to be engendering more and more activity and attracting greater numbers of people as well. They got a winner with this - smacks of vision - quite a rare thing these days.
BTW - hoping the test cricket attendance is better than at the Gabba and Waca. Won't be hard to top. VERY poor in Brisbane - 1500 on the last day of the first test from a city of 2.2m. They were talking about the opening season test match being taken away from Brisbane in future. By contrast I remember a match last season with the local team - the Strikers - getting over 50000 at the Ad. oval - commentators were in awe of it. What a contrast!!

I remember last year when WA was complaining about missing out on the India test. This year they get their Test back and the the crowd numbers have been shocking. The ground's been mostly empty.
I hope the Adelaide Test is huge! I can't imagine a second rate West Indies team pulling much of a crowd in Hobart and Sydney too. Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test is usually big but I have a feeling the crowd numbers in Melbourne will tapper off pretty quickly?

Can almost guarantee days 1-3 of the AO test will be capacity, or close to it.
First day/night test with the pink ball.
The lawns out back of the members area typically feels like the Melbourne Cup - heaps of people dressed-up for the day, minus the headwear.

The crowds at the Gabba and the WACA Tests have been poor. The contrast for TV viewers in amenity and aesthetics between the WACA and the beautiful AO has been stark.
There is a sense of excitement about the day/night Test at AO and the flexible attendance options, eg night sessions, will suit some folk who have limited time or budgets.
I was at the Redbacks day/night Sheffield Shield game v NSW (half the Australian Test team) at AO and the pink ball and different conditions in the evening injected a sort of wildcard and different atmosphere into the match. Tactics will come into play.
Hopefully, the weather will be kind (No Scorchers!).

Yes it is. I just wish we could get some more of Adelaide's famous naysayer mentality shut down by pointing this out.Wayno wrote:Yep thumbs-up.

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.
[COM] Re: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
At this stage I just hope FFA stagger the starting times sufficiently well so I can get from Hindmarsh stadium(AU home game?) to the oval for the build up to a World Cup Qualifier:)ChillyPhilly wrote:Hopefully we get Jordan!Patrick_27 wrote:Woo-hoo!ghs wrote:Socceroos at adelaide oval, March 24 next year, world cup qualifier.
First WCQ in SA ie a 'proper' game since 2009?

They'll probably be the only Federation on the globe to meddle with the KO time so it suits the eastern states.Kasey771 wrote:At this stage I just hope FFA stagger the starting times sufficiently well so I can get from Hindmarsh stadium(AU home game?) to the oval for the build up to a World Cup Qualifier:)ChillyPhilly wrote:Hopefully we get Jordan!Patrick_27 wrote: Woo-hoo!

Another 'good get' for AO.ghs wrote:Socceroos at adelaide oval, March 24 next year, world cup qualifier.
... surely the Adelaide United match at Hindmarsh 'on the same day' will now be rescheduled? The Socceroos clash in SA will be three days before Port Adelaide hosts St Kilda in the opening round of the 2016 AFL season at Adelaide Oval, while Adelaide United meets Central Coast on the same day at Coopers Stadium in an A-League match.
The Liverpool game at AO was awesome for the atmosphere - sellout, passionate overseas/interstate supporters, crowd singing, sea of red, scarves held aloft etc. And the World Cup cricket matches at AO this year engendered passionate, support and colourful and enthusiastic scenes - win or lose!
Hopefully, the support and atmosphere at the Socceroos game will live up to these!

AU won't reschedule their match. They 'were there first'.
