Trims site project targets high-end older market

Plans have been unveiled to turn the former Trims CBD site into Adelaide’s multi-million-dollar high-end epicentre for the over 55s market.

The first image of the $275 million high-rise, to accommodate early retirees, retail and hospitality sectors, was released by Karidis Corporation this morning ahead of its official launch tonight.

The developer announced the construction of four multi-storey towers on the former Trims site on King William Street would create jobs for some 500 trades and ongoing employment for hundreds more.

Karidis Corporation chairman Gerry Karidis said the complex would suit residents who wanted to “swap their house in the suburbs” for a high style of living.

Standing by his words, Karidis said he would be the building’s first resident and move from his home of more than 40 years near the CBD for one of the penthouse suites.

He said he would also relocate the Karidis Corporation to the new building from its Angas Street headquarters.

“This unique development has something for everyone, and will be a perfect living choice for those individuals and couples approaching retirement or are semi-retired that want to enjoy five-star hotel surroundings within their own city apartment and panoramic views every day of the year,” Karidis said.

“This will rival the standards of apartments found in some of the greatest cities around the world, and we are very proud to be able to bring this new luxury accommodation option into the heart of Adelaide for people to enjoy.

“We expect a great deal of market interest from locals wanting to swap their house in the suburbs for trendy, upmarket city living, as well as those older overseas professionals wanting to secure a location that has great events, cafés, bars and restaurants right on the doorstep, the Central Market and Gouger Street only a short stroll away, and easy access to the beach on the tram.”

The development will include a piano lounge, “Singapore-inspired” roof-top bar, hotel, French patisserie and a range of multicultural restaurants.

No start date has been provide.

I've heard the tallest tower is around 28/30 stories I guess more information will come out soon. There is to be 3 "upmarket" ground level restaurants.

This development in conjunction with New Mayfield will combine the southern CBD skyline to the skyline proper. The view from the airport will look significantly better in a few years.

Well hot damn. If all this goes ahead, bye bye southern skyline. That centre building looks quite eastern states to me, and in a good way.

The building in the centre looks great, but the building on the right is butt ugly. No merit whatsoever. Looks like something I'd make from Lego. Can't see enough detail to judge the one on the left, but it looks alright.

I just thought of this, but is one of these buildings in this render (possibly the one on the left) the nearby "All Suites Hotel" proposed by Karidis for 314 King William Street? What exact area does the Trims site encompass? Surely the site isn't big enough for all four buildings, or is it?

Also, this is Karidis, so don't hold your breath, I guess.

Yep, yep and yep. Sounds too good to be true though. Does this Karidis crew have a reputation for getting things done? Hope so.

Ah. So that one on the left IS the All Suites hotel. Nice. Once we get some definite heights to these buildings (and possibly the Enigma 8 development), I might post an update to the future Adelaide skyline on Google Earth that I've got going.

Once again the Advertiser/Adelaide Now/Messenger muddies the waters with exceptionally poor 'fact' checking...

Apparently 322 KWS is up near the Sealink building and across the road from Vue...

The All Suites Hotel and smaller apartment building seem designed more as a 'foil' to make the 2 x 28 towers seem a bit more integrated - and I'm more than fine with that... especially since even the All Suits Hotel at 65m is quite a bit taller than the nearby Quest on KWS.

Just need the SA Govt to find the cash for the new courts complex on the vacant land diagonally across from the main towers now...

Plus with Kodo and Kodo stage 2 this will almost have more 90+ than our main CBD...

I was waiting for this. Trim's sale was connected to rumours of a new development. Looks great - as others have said, will almost link up KWS st with the CBD proper - and with impressive bldgs - all long overdue from the original vision from 1975. Needs KWS st tram stop getting attention. (esp. with all the other resi developments in the area).

Hmmm, targeting middle aged, near retirement, andy recently retired folk. Seems a bit odd.

Corralling a bunch of 40+ people into an apartment complex doesn't sit well from a sales perspective. Seems to be ignoring a big slice of the apartment buyer demographic...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
