Agreed. A little boxy but overall a fairly nice looking development.
If this goes ahead, will North Adelaide become metro Adelaide's 4th "skyline" (after the CBD, Glenelg and the southern CBD if it counts)? I'm probably getting a bit carried away

Port Adelaide, Kent Town, Mawson Lakes are the other 'skylines' - if you can call them that.

Kent Town certainly doesn't have a skyline, just North Terrace House and those Malthouse apartments...although there are the East Park and Royal Hotel proposals, so we may see a little skyline form there. But what does Port Adelaide have besides that asbestos-filled, 70s-looking building and Newport Quays? As for Mawson Lakes, I'm completely unfamiliar with that area, so maybe that does have a little "skyline".[Shuz] wrote:Port Adelaide, Kent Town, Mawson Lakes are the other 'skylines' - if you can call them that.
Anyway, back to this one. It looks fairly decent, nothing super special but nothing particularly offensive either. 54, 41 and 38 metres are a fairly good set of heights for this area, and they appear to create a fair amount of density for that height. It's not saying a hell of a lot, but the tallest building proposed for this development would be Hobart's third tallest. There's already a few reasonably tall buildings by Adelaide suburb standards around North Adelaide (Women's and Children's hospital buildings and of course the Cathedral), so if these go ahead along with the old Le Cornu site (big if, I know), then I think North Adelaide might just start to form its own little skyline, especially if these developments can spur on new ones as well.

I just had a thought, this building could potentially be taller than Westpac house given that it is set up high on the hill? Anyone have a way of working the heights above sea Level. that would be a good indication as to how visible it will be.

One way would be to ask a cartographer.Ben wrote:Anyone have a way of working the heights above sea Level. that would be a good indication as to how visible it will be.
Brougham Place, on the corner of O'Connell St, is approx. 45m above mean sea level

That block is apx 46m AHD + 54m height = 100m AHD.Ben wrote:I just had a thought, this building could potentially be taller than Westpac house given that it is set up high on the hill? Westpac Tower is on 43m AHD + 132m height = 175m AHD.
If I did that right...
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

They are quite similar then, it seems much higher. Oh well thanks for that

Probably an optical illusion, as both sites then slope down to the Torrens River. However, I think the rise from the river on the Nth Adelaide side is steeper, the rise on the Adelaide CBD side is more gradual... hence giving the impression that Brougham Pl is higher on the hill.Ben wrote:They are quite similar then, it seems much higher. That's my theory anyway : )

Fantastic proposal. Views would be amazing
Be great to see a skyline emerge from the north of the Torrens. This would be visible from Adelaide Oval aswell.

This little cluster certainly is a welcome addition. North Adelaide finally starting to come into its own right with this and the LeCornu developments.

The DAC are expected to approve this on Thursday.

If Kodo is anything to go by, they'll also need approval from the fed government and Ben's stoned cat...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
