I think the station itself is set back enough to allow for partial acquisition enough to support the southern elevated road.

It might also depend on which side the corridor at that location is to be expanded.
As to whether or not properties are being snapped up for the necessary upgrades as they come on the market, that might be an indication of the intent to complete the overall expressway by 2025.

With regard to why the Government isn't buying properties along South Road from now: I think it'll simply be cheaper later. Land values can rise approaching the time a project is due or announced, but then this value declines as the amenity does due to construction and then the completed development and its impacts.

Bolivar Road/PWR intersection has a completletion date of August 2016 on the sign and a site office is being erected there now.
There was a crew surveying around the PWR/Northern Connector interchange today as well so I assume that has something to do with the northern connector

Lots of interesting info in here if you haven't already read it - including addition of extra on/off ramps just north of Port Road, the preliminary design for the rail overpass and open spaces, greenway improvements along the rail line from South Road to Coglin Street etc.

The rail overpass seems to look interesting, much better than just a bland concrete structure, but I really wish the govt ignored the residents/whingers of Croydon who didnt want a new train station, with the road and train line grade separated. I think the govt should just close the rail level crossing on Queen Street anyway, perhaps make it only for pedestrians and cyclists and make the drivers detour down Euston and Day tce and pass under the train bridge at South Rd

On a positive, looks like someone came to their senses with the bikeway continuing to follow the rail line east after South Rd, instead of forcing everyone to go down the spiral ramp to

I like what I see from that document. I think the rail overpass design is pretty neat too. Love the brickwork, it'll reflect the area and Bowden beyond.

I think we've been here before but.....
Whilst I fully support separation of rail and road where feasible, as a resident/whinger of Croydon I still think that there are special circumstances around this particular level crossing which were taken into account when the decision was made to return the line to grade before the crossing. Extending the overpass over Queen/Elizabeth Street would have meant a relocation of Croydon Station - the options were either moving it east pretty much to where the overpass meets South Road, or keeping it where it is but elevated.
Either way, the station would have ended up elevated. Aside from it's location outside of the main centre, this is one of the main reasons people have an issue with using Port Adelaide railway station - there are perceived safety issues and it seems people can't be bothered with climbing stairs or ramps. It is very difficult to integrate things that aren't at ground level into a human-friendly environment - look at all the elevated things built in the 60s which just failed because it turns out that people didn't want to be elevated. Croydon station forms a key part of the individual Croydon 'hub' - the station, the park, the shops and the cafes. Removing the station would remove part of this hub and its unique 'village' atmosphere.
Personally, I think it was the correct decision to keep the station in-situ - its presence will also help to deter rat-runners from using Queen Street as a shortcut to/from Port Road. But I'd also be tentatively supportive of closing the crossing to vehicles completely if there is a genuine and proven safety risk in this particular location.
On a more positive note, I do really like the design of the overpass. I hope the final design doesn't get watered-down into a pre-formed concrete eyesore like the South Road tram overpass.

What if the elevated station allied for small shops or cafes underneath facing the park. A proper little village green with an elevated rail
