Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
I think this looks tacky and very 'Mickey Mouse'.
It would be much better if the council instead put fairy lights on the Norfolk Pines along Brighton Road.

very tacky, very poxy, definitely not Glenelg!
Perhaps the artwork can be placed somewhere else inGlenelg....perhaps in the family "courtyard areas" and scaled down in size to complement the refurbishment.

Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
They should put that money towards redeveloping that part of Jetty Road or updating the slogan, logo for Jetty Road and the way they market the strip. instead of something that is going to look out of place.
Though overall I'm 50/50 on the design.

Hahahahaha looks like your entering Disney land!!
Interesting design but it doesn't appeal to me, looks a bit childish.

Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
Is that the actual proposal or something, someone the advertiser got from it's graphics department to knock something up. We all know how the currie st proposal looked when the advertiser got their hands on it. if that is the actual proposal it looks terrible however I could imagine something different with a similar theme looking better. I like the idea of the theme continuing down the street with dolphin on the bins if done in a non tacky childish manner.
Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
Yep thats the actual proposal, it was on the news last night. Yeah I'm decided not to be in favour of this, it does look bit childish and it would look out of place in the that dumpy part of Jetty Road.

Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
Just spotted something here...
How in the world are the trams supposed to operate if the dolphins noses are below the tram cables?? We will see a collision of the trams hitting the top of the dolphin.
Looks like this idea will have to be scraped!!

Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
By the sounds of it the flippers will be holder the tram wires from above so therefore the pic is not a realistic image of what would be constructed. It would actually be much bigger.
Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
yeh saw this on ch 10 news last night. they were saying it would be much like the pigs of rundle mall and had dolphins leaning into the top of the bins down jetty rd, how one of the pigs is in rundle mall.
personally i think it looks disgusting and a more classy entrance should be developed, with 100k something much better could be acheieved.
ifsomething like that were to go in glenelg, not that i would be in favour, but probably better suited around the beach house or something.
I think they also said there would be a revamp of jetty road... not sure to what extent though.

Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
I think it should blow water out of their blow-holes when trams pass underneath.
Or even better, install a sensor so that whenever someone pushes the button to cross the road the fins could start flapping and a recording would start playing a dolphin chattering.
Dolphin arches are as good an idea as the idea a few years ago to have "SA - Going All The Way" on our number plates.

I really do hope this hole dolphin arch thing is a joke though.
And i dont remember the SA - Going All The Way slogan
Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
They could always take the money and line the street with it! Oh wait... we've done that already...

Re: Dolphin Arch on Jetty Road?
HEHE i reckon it should have a sensor so that when people from sydney come down and say something like "this isnt as good as bondi" it should squirt water at THEM from their blow holes!! hahah
