Interesting - looks like Bank of China are taking one of the new retail units on the ground floor of 1 King William Street.

Rays outdoors on west terrace is closing in next couple of months. Maybe a site for another car yard to move too? Mazda or Kia maybe?

Priceline in the Myer Centre has enlarged their business and taken over the former space where Whacky Shack was.

All the rest are closing too. And they will be re branded into other competing outlets (Kathmandu, Rebel Sport, BCF, etc).Ben wrote:Rays outdoors on west terrace is closing in next couple of months. Maybe a site for another car yard to move too? Mazda or Kia maybe?

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
There need to be some changes made so that the supermarkets in the city can stay open later on saturday and
sunday nights. I've met a couple of tourists who have been surprised by how early they close on the weekends.
If a group of tourists fly into Adelaide late on a saturday or sunday afternoon where are they meant to get food from ?

it isn't like things don't open the next day....
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
OTR is open 24/7 if you're desperate for shops, if you're after a meal there's always fast food.
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
I give you the following scenario :
A group of tourists come over from Melbourne late on a saturday afternoon. They are on a budget and are
staying at the backpackers place on Waymouth street near Light Square. The two IGA stores are a long walk
from Light square. What are they meant to do ?
They can't take a shopping trolley full of groceries on an aeroplane lol.

So the one day of the week Coles doesn't open at midnight, you whinge about - I'm sure the other 6 days a week the backpackers can head to coles at midnight, other than that there's OTR, plus there are 4 IGA's in the CBD

Mate, if you read back through my posts on this thread you will find out that it's not actually me who is whinging about it.Torrens_5022 wrote:So the one day of the week Coles doesn't open at midnight, you whinge about - I'm sure the other 6 days a week the backpackers can head to coles at midnight, other than that there's OTR, plus there are 4 IGA's in the CBD
I meet quite a few tourists through my work and I've had a couple recently who have complained about the supermarkets
closing early on the weekends.
Are there any IGA's near Light Square ? I don't think so.
OTR on west terrace doesn't have a good range and its expensive.
These tourists are on a bugdet lol.

I think we just have a situation where the city population is slowly growing. When certain areas without a corner shop hit critical mass then more convenient store/IGAs will appear.
Supply and demand.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Why can't the supermarkets open later ?Wayno wrote:I think we just have a situation where the city population is slowly growing. When certain areas without a corner shop hit critical mass then more convenient store/IGAs will appear.

They're cheaper and provide a better range.
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Most days of the week Coles on Grote Street is open at midnight. Not quite sure why they have to close from 9pm to midnight, might be economics or might be regulation. If it is regulation then I agree this should be changed to allow them to trade 24hrs if they want to.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Given they actually open at 12.01am, it suggests it's a regulation thing.mgb wrote:Most days of the week Coles on Grote Street is open at midnight.
