[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre - Stage 3 | $350m
Driving over the Morphett St bridge yesterday, it looked like some cladding had been put on the very top surface. Not 100% sure though.
[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre - Stage 3 | $350m
Yes cladding is being installed on the roof on the Morphett St side . But the final colour is still not clear due to the temporary protective film. Some more pictures of the East and North sides from Saturday 16 July.

What I saw didn't appear to have the protective film on it, it looked like the brown/bronze finish we're expecting.EBG wrote:Yes cladding is being installed on the roof on the Morphett St side . More of the brown cladding was being installed this morning on the western side, just above the rear of the bistro. Couldn't tell how well it picks up the light though, since being the morning, the sun was behind.

Here are some pictures (Wednesday 27 July) of the brown (not golden) cladding on the roof and the western side. I hope the whole building is not going to be this colour .It appears to be far too dark although it was an overcast (rainy ) day.

I imagine (hope) this is different cladding used for the less conspicuous parts of the building. The fact that it doesn't have the protective wrap of the cladding that's on the other parts of the building gives me hope that the protective wrap is for the shiny stuff and not needed for the brown panels...
Looking at the original render, the bit they're currently cladding on the western side of the building seems to be shown to be clad in a different material to the main structure (albeit grey, not brown) - although the structure has changed somewhat around this area (with the addition of another window?):

Saw stage 2 of this up close for the first time and while I've never really liked it from a distance I think the Torrens and Morphett St sides actually work really well. Larger photos here - http://imgur.com/a/TryIN

Wrapping's off on the east side! Looks coppery. I like.

Sorry about the quality - my phone's off 2009. Frankly I'm lucky it does pictures.
Was hard to tell exactly what the finish was but it certinly looks metallic - like the front of the Oval but possibly a bit lighter (might weather darker over time I guess). Will cycle past it on the way to work in the morning to see how it looks in the sun!

Popped past this morning for another look. It's good - definitely a metallic finish of some sorts, not over-the-top shiny but it has a sheen to it. Looks like copper to me but not being a metallurgist that'll be the extent of my analysis for now. It picks up the light nicely, should look good in my opinion.

The Adelaide Convention Centre's Stage Two expansion has reached a milestone, with the zinc panelling exterior installed on the East Building this week. Woods Bagot principal Stuart Uren explains: "Zinc proved to be the perfect cladding material for this building. It is long lasting and malleable, able to follow the curved, folded shapes of the building. Zinc is a plentiful resource, it is non-toxic and is 100% recyclable."
