I think Wakefield House and the police station next door are some of our best remaining brutalist buildings. I particularly like the vertical bands on Wakefield House.metro wrote:MLC doesnt look too bad, but for buildings around Vic Sq, Wakefield House is one I'd like to see either torn down or gutted/refurbished.

I love Wakefield House aswell. Just wish it was double the height to fully stand out in the skyline.Nathan wrote:I think Wakefield House and the police station next door are some of our best remaining brutalist buildings. Agreed. I'm not really fussed about the historical significance of this green eyesore, but I rate it alongside the Telstra Exchange and the Australia Post building on Gouger Street as one of the worst buildings in our CBD.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, though to rate those two eyesores with the MLC building?. SeriouslyJaymz wrote:HeapsGood wrote:Good riddance, now someone needs to tear down that ugly heritage listed office building on the corner of Franklin and Victoria Square...

Drove past tonight, and very little of the church remains.

Tower is coming down tonight. The rest of the building has been demolished.
[COM] Re: Uniting Communities | 68m | 19 Levels | Mixed Use
Yeah saw the tower being dismantled last night. Poor drivers seemed quite worked up about having to wait in traffic for the crane to maneuver - perhaps it was GHS looking for his on-street park on Pitt St.

Dismantling the tower... geez, just push it over and get on with it
Not on to the street though

There was a sod turning ceremony today to officially commence construction. Apparently the federal government has committed $7m to this project.

What is the federal government doing contributing money to a church project?Ben wrote:There was a sod turning ceremony today to officially commence construction. Apparently the federal government has committed $7m to this project.

Maybe because part of this development is to provide accommodation for people with disabilities, plus part retirement home.
[COM] Re: Uniting Communities | 68m | 19 Levels | Mixed Use
Yes, there was a payment from the state government due to the respite accommodation part.

What a terribly misinformed question to ask. Do you actually know what Uniting Communities do in Adelaide? The Pitt Street offices house both the Lifeline call centre and Homeless Gateway Service.Nathan wrote:What is the federal government doing contributing money to a church project?Ben wrote:There was a sod turning ceremony today to officially commence construction.
