Funny, I was only sitting in the Napier forecourt today having a bitch about how rubbish the whole area looks. Hard to believe that they bulldozed Union Hall to make way for what's there now when they have a perfectly useless forecouty that they could have built on. I'd say if they were to build there, replace the Napier building with something tall-ish and in-front of it build something that keeps the uniform height between Bonython Hall and the UniSA City East campus.

Also, UniSA really need to do something about the Schultz Building, considering the impact it has on the area, even a touch of paint would help...

My bad - for some reason I was thinking of the Nexus 10 building across North Terrace.

From what I've heard on the grapevine, some forthcoming works around the North Terrace campus will involve creating more defined 'entrances' to the campus area, rather than the multitude of access points it has now. I imagine (hope) the Napier/Ligertwood plaza would be high on the list.

Sorry I'm confused, WTFudge are you all talking about?

Is "The Napier Forecourt" the sunken area in front of the Napier Building? Cos there's no room for a building in that hole. Or if you're referring to the flat area between the Law School and Bonython Hall - that's the roof of the carpark building.

What's there now is 100x better than the red-brick 50s eyesore that was Union Hall.

This will be interesting to see pan out. Anything to improve its appearance!

Greater Union Film House (re)opens on Wednesday September 21. Seems they are going for a low key launch and from the looks of Hindley Street they've done absolutely nothing to improve its entry. Hope they know what they're doing!

It looks as though they're doing this on the cheap. Perhaps in case it fails, business at Glenelg's GU F.H. has been slow so I guess they're exercising caution with this one.

That said, I took a few friends down there the other week to look at the progress (they have nowhere near the same level of interest in this stuff as I do) and their initial reaction was: 'wait, so are they doing anything with the entry? Because it looks really tacky with the way it is right now'." Here's hoping that if things go well we might see a complete facelift of the outside to bring it out of the 90s and some new tenancies that encourage a more family-friendly atmosphere (particularly restaurants and cafes).

So they're going for a stylish, arty, intimate feel with a plain, barren exterior?

Also, did anyone work out the final number for the cinemas there - was it 6 or 14?

I had a look this evening on the way to the Mercury. They had a group in tonight, perhaps staff training or test screenings.
The cinemas (six of them) are where they used to be, but the box office and bar is separate to that, in the last of the retail tenancies on the western side.

If the promo photos and the 7 News article last night are anything to go by it looks like quite the stylish cinema.

Now let's see if GU will actually maintain and look after the cinema (you only have to look at Marion to see how poorly they maintain their cinemas).

There is only 6 cinemas. it is indeed very stylish and the cinema has the first and at the stage only Dolby Atmos technology in Adelaide and the sound is incredible. By far the best i've ever heard.

The only downfall which I say will effect its success is the location. Upon walking out of the cinema you are confronted with a bunch of sheesha lounges and without getting all Pauline Hanson its not a very welcoming or safe feeling walking through there. Once at Hindley street you have the Crazy Horse directly across and Strats next door. I just can't see this cinema doing well in the short term. I would prefer this actual cinema over Palace Nova but no way I would choose it because of where it is.
