can't get used to the idea of Adelaide having a 40 storey bldg!!! V exciting though. One way or another, Telstra tower will lose it's position of tallest - a few others challenging that as well.

Doesn't sound like they can go too much taller in this area.

The development would exceed Adelaide Airport’s Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) contour boundary of 138 metres AHD established for this portion of the City by approximately 37.5 metres, although it would remain 7.32 metres beneath the Radar Terrain Clearance Chart (RTCC) surface of 182.8 metres AHD and 34.53 metres beneath the Procedures for Air Navigation Services – Aircraft Operations (PANS-OPS) surface of 210 metres AHD.

That's very interesting to know. Another small piece added to the puzzle in understanding the PANS OPS height limit for Adelaide. From what I gather it sounds like in this exact location, they could have gone to a height of 132m + 34.5m under clearance = 166.5m is the absolute maximum height possible for a building at this location. Going out further east, the PANS OPS ceiling would only increase.

I'm curious as to why our planning department would recommend approval for a proposal where over half of the apartments are smaller than the minimum standards set by themselves???? There's little wonder why many people refer to city apartments as "dog boxes" when plans like these are allowed to pass.
I'm all for a new tallest building in Adelaide but surely our planning department has a greater responsibility to quality of living amenity.

I assume it's to make these apartments affordable, some people might have a different location / space trade-off preference and the developer might try to cater to them (including capturing the upper part of the student market). Minimum standards are arbitrary numbers anyway (and millions of people worldwide live in apartments violating Adelaide's numbers) , so making these exceptions shouldn't really be much of an issue.
