I (hopefully) can't see that happening - I can only being to imagine the uproar that building a disused tramline would cause. Unrelated to the tram extension - which is great! - but that slip lane from King William Rd to North Tce needs to die or at least be reconfigured (i.e. narrowed).

Speaking about minimising disruption by doing more than expected... Would it be too much to suggest realignment of the tram-track around Victoria Square to cater for the potential (eventual) re-squaring?

Agree about that slip lane. It's an accident waiting to happen. It's as wide as it is because that's the main entrance to Government House.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this... I think it's designed the way it is to cater for the military proceedings the come from Government House to Parliament House with every opening of the Parliamentary year.mshagg wrote:Or controlled. I have to give massive credit to the State Government for how they've gone about this next round of extensions, there's not one thing I can fault about it judging by the video fly through.
Wiring to be hung from sides instead of middle poles. Tick.
Utilising existing street lamps to hang wiring. Tick.
Seperate side platforms instead of one central congested platform. Tick.
Track provision beyond last stops to cater for turnbacks and showing commitment to future extensions. Tick.
Doing North Terrace grand junction in one hit rather than two. Tick.
3 new trams to cater for required increased frequencies. Tick.
Continuation of similar shelter design / branding. Tick.
Strategically placed stops at Festival Plaza, Museum, Adelaide University and Old RAH. Tick.
Good compromise between tram track route and traffic management with slip lanes still intact at key intersections. Tick.
Commitment to sustainable effective infrastructure funding and jobs creation during challenging economic times. Tick.

Not surprisingly the card carrying Liberal members have hit the news sites bagging the upgrade as a tram to nowhere once again.

Well thought out Shuz and completely agree - esp seeing the KWS Sth stop fixed up as well. I have to admid I thought that not much of the original tram system would ever return - huge expense. The comment about development following tramlines I think holds true - look at KWS Sth.
ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATER CITY SKYLINE.

I agree with Shuz, ticks a lot of boxes and lays the foundations of an inner-suburban light-rail network, from this there could be extensions to any of the following: North Adel/Prospect, Melb St/Walkerville/Collinswood, Norwood/Magill/Marden.
The only problem I can see with this is the Festival Centre stop is very close to the Railway station and Rundle Mall stops, I think would be better to put it further north so it's closer to the pathway at the back of Government house so that anyone coming down the new Kintore Ave War-Path or from the University can directly cross King William St to get over to Elder Park (and the new Festival Centre riverbank area) without having to walk up hill to Festival Drive, and then back down again.
Also I think right turns from North Tce into Gawler Place and Kintore Ave should have been removed, and turning right into Frome St should have either been made into a hook-turn or been removed with a u-turn facility put in either just after the East End tram stop or at the East Tce lights. People have adapted to the loss of right-turns down King William St, they should be able to adapt on North Tce as well.
Looking forward to seeing more trams in Adelaide!!

I would hazard a guess that most people complaining aren't even political party members (like a good 95% of the state's population.). The libs have about 3000 state members I'd guess 99% of those wouldn't even have Internet.
