On the new overpass - there's an animation above somewhere. Quite an amazing feat to get this completed to a degree that trains can run on it in less than a month!
[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
Given the speed of construction on this project, I wonder if this will be used as a construction template for further level crossing removals that may be announced in the upcoming June state budget - which is the last one before the state election. Salisbury and Oaklands are crying out for immediate removal - amongst many others.

When...the state government decides to grade separate Oaklands, they should do Brighton Road at the same time.
Kill 2 birds with one stone and NOT repeat the Oaklands experience (upgrade the station without grade separation, necessitating further closures closing the station, moving the station etc)

I'm not sure the other crossings' would be constructed at that speed, given that Oaklands and Salisbury would require stations to be built around them as well. They would be able to take a lot of lessons and processes from this build though to shorten the build time.

It may be possible for the overpass to be built first, with the station added once the bridge structure is completed and trains are running again. This would result in the station being closed for a longer period of time but could be worthwhile to minimise disruption to other users of the line.Norman wrote:I'm not sure the other crossings' would be constructed at that speed, given that Oaklands and Salisbury would require stations to be built around them as well. The Outer Harbor rail overpass over South Road is coming along nicely with around 262m3 of concrete poured (taking about eight hours!) to construct the bridge deck yesterday.
Follow this link to see a timelapse showing the three bridge segments being craned into place – a mammoth effort from the team allowing the bridge deck pour to go ahead as scheduled: youtu.be/2rLKOplD73Y
Roadwork restrictions are still in place, please keep an eye out for signage and traffic management and take extra care when workers are on site. Thank you for your patience.

Hard to believe that this time next week regular train services will be running over it.
They're doing a remarkable job getting this done so quickly, and keeping to schedule.

I never knew this place was heritage listed. I never knew what it was. Until now.
