The western end of the tunnel towards Grenfell St is being covered with the stock piled spare dirt as of today Monday 12/12/16 . Sorry could not stop for a picture-maybe in a couple of days.

Just wondering if anyone knows whether the tunnel will be o-bahn track or normal road surface?

It will be O-Bahn track from what I've heard.

It looks like normal painted road on surface on the animation.
Also there is multiple breaks to allow cars to cross, the enter exit of the track would be slower than just a normal road.

But tunnel show as track, would allow high speed close passes in a tight tunnel.

I'm basing my answer from the animation too but it would make sense to have an O-bahn track in the tunnel as bits has pointed out.

I was talking about the part in the tunnel. The surface bus lane will be normal asphalt.

My guess is that purely because of economics, the tunnel will be track and the approaches will be asphalt. If the tunnel is tracked, then the walls can be closer to the sides of the bus leading to possibly a smaller tunnel by volume and thus a cheaper tunnel. That's the same layout as the existing tunnel under Park Terrace, Gilberton.

Thanks everyone for having a stab! I definitely thought the ground level was always going to be asphalt but the more I think about it, and after reading everyone's comments, it makes little sense that it could be anything but O-bahn track in the actual tunnel. The only reason against that I could come up with would be if they need it to be asphalt for emergency vehicle access, but I'm hopeful it will O-bahn!

Buses are wide, a car can fit down the track, most cars have a problem with the open pit in the middle on the existing track, if it wasn't an open pit I would assume most would find the distance gutter-to-gutter of o-bahn track manageable to drive.
A modified o-bahn track with no open pit would not exclude emergency vehicles.

Indeed, passed it on my way to Klemzig on the 281 yesterday afternoon and thought they might've started digging up for the Hackney Road tunnel entrance

Could be concrete/asphalt with high kerbing to o-bahn rail specs, this would allow emergency and maintenance vehicles to pass through, as well as the occasional sneaky driver.
