Application lodged with ACC yesterday (16th July) for "Multi Storey Commercial Development" 121 - 124 West Terrace. There are no further detials at this stage.

DA/551/2007

This is in addition to 145 - 160 West terrace "Demolish existing buildings and construct 3 level building with show room and service facilities on ground floor, administration facilities and carparking on 1st level and vehicle storage and display on 2nd level"

Good to see some development on West Terrace.

I think its time the ACC start improving West Terrace. Though its good to see more developments along there.

Thirdly, does anyone know what this was supposed to be? It's been a half complete shell for as long as I can remember, being used as a car park. Young Street, off Waymouth Street.

Let me start by saying that I know nothing about this.

However I am intrigued by it. Why do you say it is the shell of a never built building?

When you look down at it from the Truscotts car park, it doesn't look like it's finished, as if it was supposed to be more.

Here's a pic I dug up from May 2006.

There's some exposed steel for re-enforcing concrete. I've blown the image up to 200% its original size and cropped it:

Looks incomplete to me, as if the development stopped for some reason and it was turned into a car park like so many abandoned buildings in Adelaide.

Yes that is very interesting. There is no-doubt that this is the shell of a never-built high rise building. From the wear on the concrete and the style of the second level I presume that the building is from the late 1980's.

Haven't been down to that car park at the rear of the ATO for a while. From your images Adam it looks like there's two cores on that unfinished-looking building. Maybe they have a couple of lifts each. Not sure if there's a further stairwell in the centre. By the size you'd could say something in the region of eight to ten levels. Would be interesting to know though.

I noticed the lights were on inside the IGA on the ground floor yesterday. Looks like they are stocking up the shelves ready for opening.
Is it just me or does it seem like a really out of the way place to have a supermarket?

Also is the car park underneath for anyone wanting to go to the shop or is it for residents only?

Last thing. I saw the apartments advertised on realestate.com.au not long ago. They are way too expensive.

121 - 124 West Terrace 8 Level Commercial building

#342 Post by Ben » Wed Aug 01, 2007 4:56 pm

I know i've mentioned this before as a "Multi Storey" development but I could not locate the original post. Anyway.

121 - 124 West Terrace latest is this is actually a 8 level building. Will be interesting if this is approved. Will be a significant height compared to existing buildings in the area.

The development has been designated as Category 2. It will be an entirely commercial building, with associated carparking. The building is expected to cost $20 million.

In addition, the following proposal has also been lodged recently with the council;

73-79 Light Square.

The proposal is to refurbish the existing heritage building, and construct an additional floor to the building. The refurbished building will then have 40 units. In addition, the development also calls for the erection of a new 6 level building next to the refurbished building comprising an additional 20 units. The development will contain office accomodation, and communal indoor space. The units are designed for low-income earners and the homeless.

The development has been designated as Category 1, and is expected to cost $4.7 million.
