Why add a freeway to the O-bahn corridor when we're trying to get people and cars off roads. :?

I agree. Also a freeway in this corridor would be the end of the Torrens. It would be put into a concrete drain under the freeway.

I didn't know the O'Bahn route was part of the MATS plan. I can't agree with routing a freeway along the river corridor, it's just not wide enough for both a freeway and an aesthetic linear reserve, and to my mind the reserve is more important. Knock down houses if you want a freeway reserve.

Alright, I've finished this subway proposal, and am open to feedback. Now, I know this will never happen (in our lifespan at least), but I am a great public transport fan and believe this would make public transport a lot more attractive to the population.

Again, I'm telling you this is just my imagination at work, and I apologise for the shotty website, I am currently not on my preferred computer. I will finish off the website sometime tomorrow I hope.

Absolutely brilliant Normangerman - build it now I say - I will hang up the car for day to day and use the Subway in a snap

It's a great idea in theory, but it seems very impractical in a lot of places. A lot of it appears to be the doubling up or rerouting of existing routes. Also, some of the stations are too close together (take a look at London Underground which has loads of disused underground stations that were within a few hundred metres of the next). On top of that, some of the bends marked on the map would be simply too sharp for metro trains to negotiate safely at any sort of reasonable speed (again look at LU which has bends everywhere resulting is speed restrictions often as slow as 15km/h, and large gaps on platforms resulting from stations being built on bends).

Just like the Tonsley Line, your Flinders Line stops too far north. :P

I guess you could bore into the Flinders hill, but then imagine the elevator from Flinders Uni station to the actual ground level :lol:

I only put it up there because I want to terminate the 72* buses there so the people then catch the subway into town (hence the 5 min frequency in peak). There could be a 15 or 20-min freq. shuttle bus around FMC and FU, connecting with each arriving subway (which has a normal freq. of 20 mins as well).

I also am currently working on the Distance Trains, which will deliver people to places further than the current U-network (ie. Elisabeth, Noarlunga, Seaford, Barossa, Blackwood). By then you will see my full plan of attack on the transport system in Adelaide.

Also, I will be modifying some of the routes in my next update. I drove around some of those areas today and saw a few areas where I may need to adjust some things (ie NE Road can have some ground level run near TTP). I'll update you on the next release.

I do like your plan but why would you build a subway underneath the outer harbour train line? :?
(from port adelaide to outer harbour i am referring to)

If you look at the ledgend at the bottom right, the ligher blue lines are not underground, but on ground level. Only the dark blue lines are underground.

Ahh ok i didnt see that before thanks it makes sense now, looks like a good plan though

Wow, what an impressive plan. Maybe this'll hit the papers soon - like that guy who did the same thing for Melbournes train network and it got into the papers as a 'visionary' piece. I am intrigued though, aren't subway stops supposed to be like 1km apart. A lot of your stations are awfully close, in some instances 500m apart, if not less. Wouldn't this reduce the efficiency of flow through these corridors?

Say, normangerman - do you have the original file of the Adelaide satellite photo without the layers that you have added on? I might like to do something of my own :)

Sure, I'll post it up on the site later tonight or tomorrow.

I also have a query for the next stage: Is it better to have a distance train setup like this:
  • Seaford - Gawler/Angaston
  • Greenwith/Tea Tree Plaza - Belair
  • U7 and U4 will be slightly re-routed
or:
  • Seaford - Gawler/Angaston
  • Outer Harbour - Belair (Express Port Adelaide - City)
  • Shortening the U1 to Port Adelaide - Glenelg
  • U4 would be extended to Golden Grove
I had both in mind, and would like to know which one you all would prefer.

The other changes:
  • U6 will be extended to Flinders Medical Centre
  • A few stops will be removed to decrease travelling time
  • A few underground sections will be moved to ground level
