Huge New Shopping Centre Planned For Gepps Cross
https://www.hit.com.au/news/adelaide/bi ... e-planned/
A wasteland at Gepps Cross is set to be transformed.
Port Adelaide Enfield Council is expected to rezone land once occupied by parts of a former abattoir and old steel plant between Main North Road and Port Wakefield Road.
I don't understand what is going on with these retail developments in SA at the moment.
So many new centres. I wonder how long until we start seeing the USA side of things with abandoned malls.
I am all for development, but it seems like we are just getting more of the same. Also, we have no factory outlet in SA. It may be branded as that, but its nothing compared to interstate.

The proposed petrol station will be very close to the recently completed Caltex on the corner of Hampstead/Folland Avenue. I couldn't find any reference as to who will be running the petrol station, but going off the plans it could be a Shell? I didn't look at the plan in too much detail so if someone could fill in the missing piece that would be much appreciated.
Anyone interested in the plans can see them here:

I think it may be Coles Express/Shell.

how good is he wrote:Yes the Hampstead Rd site (car yard & mechanic) is for a Coles Express Petrol station & Hungry Jacks. It's by Emmett (who did a similar one on South Rd Edwardstown about a year ago).
I think you may find it is not Emmett but Michael Vidale.

‘Unley, we really listening to you’: Council instructs planning staff to amend high-rise housing plan
Dan Jervis-Bardy, Eastern Courier Messenger
January 23, 2017 4:33pm
A BACKLASH from residents is set to force Unley Council to scale-back its plan for high-rise housing in the heart of the district.
Unley Mayor Lachlan Clyne said the council “had listened to responses from the community” and was “highly likely” to reduce proposed new building height limits for Unley Rd, between Marion and Thomas streets.
Mr Clyne would not be drawn on specific changes to the plan, but the Eastern Courier Messenger understands an 11-storey height limit earmarked for the Unley Shopping Centre would be reduced, in parts, to eight storeys.
Development on the Unley Civic Centre precinct was expected to be capped at six storeys, rather than eight, and greater protection would be guaranteed for The Village Green, under the revised plan.
Residents have rallied against the Unley Central Precinct Development Plan Amendment since the council announced it last year, fearing the push to create room for 500 new homes in the district would ruin the character of the area.
More than 100 locals packed an Unley Council meeting last month to voice concerns about the proposal, and almost all 300 respondents to public consultation rejected the high-rise plan.
Friends of The City of Unley Society president Ros Islip was last week “pleased” the council would scale-back the plan.
But Mrs Islip was concerned the changes would not go far enough, saying three to five-storey developments would be more appropriate for Unley.
“And we remain of the view that there should not be any development on The Village Green,” Mrs Islip said.
The Eastern Courier Messenger understands Unley councillors met on December 14 and instructed senior planning staff to amend the plan in light of the public backlash.
Mr Clyne last week said the revised plan would be presented to a council committee on February 13, before it was debated at a full council meeting two weeks later.
It would then be submitted to state Planning Minister John Rau for final approval.
Mr Clyne said consultation on the council’s plan to find a private developer to build up to 150 apartments behind Unley Town Hall would not start until Mr Rau approved the new height limits.

New development proposal has been lodged for a 22m tall residential building at 99 King William Street in Kent Town. This has been recommended to be approved at the next Inner Metro DAC meeting on Thursday.

The 4-storey building next to Paradise Interchange got rejected by the DAC, because it was "too large", and not in line with Campbelltown Council’s development plan.

Rejects 4-story apartments for being "too large", but will likely say yes to a big ugly 5-story carpark just like the one at TTP because there isnt enough parking

Too large in what way? Usually that would refer to the bulk of the building.

I don't post in here very often since I'm generally more interested in the CBD, so sorry if this is in the wrong spot or isn't really worthy of being here. I just take this thread to be the "miscellaneous metropolitan development" thread.
But anyway, noticed this Regis Aged Care development in Linden Park, which appears to be a fairly large building. I got a bit excited thinking it was another crane because of that white bit at the top, but it turns out that it's just a mobile crane with a very large arm.
In any case, hopefully it's a little interesting to see things going on in parts of the metro area that some of you might not normally go through.

Thanks for that X, looks like the talk of the tram has already ignited some development. Great for the continuing revival of the HBR Main Street.

At Munno Para: Kmart is expanding into what was Kmart Tyre & Auto. The former Bunnings has splashes of blue paint.
News article in the Bunyip Press
A NEW store could be set to fill the vacant Munno Para Bunnings Warehouse site, following a recent application from a well-known furniture business.
The site, which is located next to Munno Para Shopping City, became vacant earlier this year following Bunnings’ relocation to a new, and larger, store at Munno Para West, which opened in August.
A Playford Council spokesperson confirmed there was a potential for a new store, however said it’s only early days in the process.
“We recently received a ‘change of land use’ application to transform the old Bunnings Warehouse into a Super Amart bulky goods and furniture store,” the spokesperson said.
“The category two application means that the four adjoining businesses have now been notified, and are able to provide a written representation to council by December 23, 2016.”
The spokesperson said the next steps for the application, and its potential approval, is dependent on any feedback given from the adjoining businesses.
“If no representation is received, our staff would be making a decision in January,” the spokesperson said.
“Otherwise, the matter will be assessed by the Council Development Assessment Panel in late February.”
The Munno Para site has been home to the Bunnings Warehouse since the store was opened in 2007.

Apparently OTR own the old go-kart track on the corner of PWR and Waterloo Corner Rd and want to build there but the council won't allow it. Has anyone heard anything?
