Seems this got approved:

From ACC website:

New Uni building to enhance City’s education credentials

The City of Adelaide’s reputation as a leading education centre for local and international students is set to be further enhanced, with plans by the University of Adelaide to develop a new engineering building at its North Terrace campus.

The Adelaide City Council’s Development Assessment Panel has given provisional approval for the $48.9 million project, which will see the existing mathematics building on Frome Road demolished and replaced by the proposed new 8-storey Engineering Building.

Lord Mayor Michael Harbison says the proposed development will help maintain the focus on Adelaide as a centre of education excellence.

“The Council’s Strategic Management Plan 2004-2007 has a target of at least 66,000 students studying in Adelaide by 2010, and projects such as the University’s new Engineering Building will play an important role in achieving that target,” he says.

“We’re already well on track, with the 2006 Strategic Plan target of 58,000 students surpassed, and an increase of almost 14% in international student enrolments for this year, which is above the national average.”

“To assist the growth in student numbers, hundreds of new student accommodation places have also come on line - or are about to come on line - in the City through developments such as the UV Apartments in King William Street and a student accommodation project underway in Hindley Street.”

“The Council is committed to continuing to work with the State Government and Education Adelaide to further raise the City’s profile internationally as an ideal place to live and study.”

The Lord Mayor says importantly, the University’s proposed new Engineering Building will achieve a 5-star green rating.

“The University’s plans include a number of energy saving and green measures, including sun hoods protecting the northern aspect of the building, solar panels to provide hot water, and the collection and storage of storm water,” he says.

The Council DAP’s approval has been granted subject to the project also being approved by the Development Assessment Commission.

On a side note, Pulteney Tower is currently being gutted, with about 11 levels being internally demolished to house all the displaced staff and students from the math building.

because this development was a category 3 development, final approval had to be granted by the state government development assessment commission. However the good news is that this state government body will grant final approval to this building in about 1 hour.
