The Oaklands Rail Overpass featured in Senate Estimates this week.

It's about 1/2 way down in questions from Senator Gallacher.

Looks like it, which is better IMO. Less visual impact and more chance of building over the station in the future.
[COM] Re: PRO: Oaklands Rail Overpass
I'm guessing part of the agreement between State and Feds was to go under to maximise value capture from development directly adjacent the station. Which is a good thing.

Flyover of the conceptual design/artists impression:

While I recognise that this is only really a funding announcement video (significant detailed design yet to come), I can see a *lot* of "open" space in the renderings.
Suspect that this is the "value capture land", i.e. land that will be sold off to developers for TOD's etc to help fund the development. Hopefully carparking doesn't fall by the wayside as this is a major, major commuter car park.

So they're finally doing it properly? Should have done it that way the first time

Great news that its getting done but they should have tried to incorporate it with the Swimming Centre/Westfield somehow. Maybe if the train continued underground and if the station was built there instead...

in a perfect world, but that would bump the cost up by a few orders of magnitudehow good is he wrote:Great news that its getting done but they should have tried to incorporate it with the Swimming Centre/Westfield somehow. Maybe they could have got Westfield to chip in the difference ...

I doubt westfield would give up a casual $500mhow good is he wrote:Maybe they could have got Westfield to chip in the difference ...

I hope the graphic artist that rendered the driving does better in reality than that depicted half way through the video.

GSU, the whole project including the new station cost is $174.3m so how do you get $500m for an extra 1km rail extension? My guess is $25m incl. resumptions to extend it to Acquatic Centre/Westfield Marion.

Great news! But what about removing the lights where Diagonal and Morphett Rd meet? And removing the pedestrian crossing lights? Plus the new design looks like it adds another set of lights for people to turn right onto Morphett Rd heading north, which will actually add congestion. I predict in a few years there will be the same traffic problems as we have now, if those three sets of lights aren't removed.
